Title: My Atlantic Giant today
Post by: Squash64 on June 07, 2010, 14:03:19
This is my Atlantic Giant today.  It's been living in a fleece 'igloo' since I put it outside a couple of weeks ago but today I've removed half of the fleece.

Looks great. Are you going to leave it alone or train it where you want it to grow?

Thanks everyone  :)

Neil, I will have to train the shoot on the left to go towards the right because it is quite close to a path there.  I'll just put a cane in and keep moving it as it grows.

OH lovely.

Only ever managed to produce one Turks Turban in the past.

I have great hopes for one plant I have Racer or is it speedy??can't remember ???

Someone gave me some lovely seeds for historic house plant sale but passed them on to someone else to Germinate as I can't do these well.

I was reading a thread of Jeannines last year and got carried away and bought loads of seeds off Ebay and none of them germinated. :(

Speedy Racer is now sitting among the radish, they will be out shortly so he will have quite a bit of space. If he makes it that is.  ;D

We'll be looking forward to pictures of your giant's growth, Jeannine. Are you feeding him anything special?

I'm hoping for a big bushel gourd this year and might restrict the plant to growing only one or two.

I'm bit behind you so it is great seeing your pictures. My first year experimenting for a biggy so fun watching how a practised grower does it   thanks ;D

I'm always shocked at just how quickly they grow once they get started.  I'm already having to put canes in to make the shoots go in the right direction.

How is yours getting on?

Great pics Squash and very encouraging, I love the challenge of growing pumpkins, can not resist.

I put seven big Max in yesterday, I know given a few days they will be well on their way once given chance to get established but the slugs did manage to have rather a nip last night!

My Atlantic Giant now has at least 7 shoots spreading out in all directions.

These two photos were taken 6 days apart, the canes with the blue balls on top are in the same position in both photos.

My sister-in-law's AG is small too. It's also Orange and looks ripe. Her plants are small, two of them together are not even 1/4 the size of my one.

gaz2000
Looking forward to them, hope you get it fixed soon.

I have no idea what mine one weighs.  I think I could measure it but could not pick it up.   They should be orange.  Is youar grandson pleased with them?

He is more than happy promised all his little friends they can have one as well!! (I can see me having to pop to shops like I did last year they all died) and plonked a few on the ground ready for him and his little pals come round to collect them!! Only thing I cheat with. We will have to plant more next year only problem is they grow so big I had to train them around all the paths between the beds x ::)

Just a little question...does anybody's AG have a small green 'nipple' around the 'flower' end of the pumpkin..and I don't mean physical way..just small coloured ring around the old scar where flower used to be..
I'm just trying to resolve the identity of one of my 'queensland blue'squashes..that wasn't one.. ::)
And one of my mystery squashes is starting to look very  much like pumpkin..and as none of my AG's turned out to be AG now I'm wondering if somehow my labels got mixed up... ::)
