Title: Goji berries
Post by: gp.girl on May 17, 2010, 20:48:09
Just bought a plant, has anyone grown them?

Any ideas what sort of care they need and what size it will grow to?

Yes, I realise this is the wrong way to do things.....oh well.

Once established they do not need any special care other cutting back every now and then..and they do have potential up to 10 ft. ::)....so start sharpening your secateurs.. ;D

I purchased a packet of dried Gojiberries from the Supermarket and actually grew many plants from the seeds within. I struck a problem with the foliage being stripped and eaten, not realising that the culprits were Sparrows. They take a few years to get to the full fruiting stage, but produce well from what I remember reading.

I gave up on the idea of growing them.

Funny this 'goji' business the plants have grown wild in Britain since introduction in the 18th century, and is now fully naturalised. I didn't know this until I stumbled on one on a cliff top near Folkestone and then did some research; apparently they are quite common is East Anglia.
