Title: Any Evergreen Recommendations?
Post by: Digitalis on January 03, 2010, 20:19:46
I have a large border at home that looks lovely in the summer with the bedding I use. However, during the winter it looks empty and unloved.

So, I was planning on putting in a few evergreen shrubs. I am tempted by eryngium and holly. Can you recommend anything else that looks good during the winter and has a reasonable amount of flora come summertime?

How about Rosemary, Lavender and Sage.  Year round colour, bee friendly, scent and useful.  What more could you want?   ;D

Hebes go on for ever and you can chop them around to fit your space.  Photinia is lovely but you won't get flowers, Osmanthus, Escallonia, Choisya.......Ceanothus are a difficult colour to blend and tend to die at a moments notice.  Lots to choose from...

Lonicera Baggesen's Gold. OK it doesn't flower but I have a Passion flower growing over it & it looks great.

I have sacred (heavenly) bamboo in my front and back garden. it is not a bamboo it is an evergreen shrub of reddish purple and green leaves and flowers red and white in summer and has red berries in winter and everyone stops and comments on its beauty, i truly cannot recomend this enough
