Title: Cannibalism?
Post by: saddad on December 23, 2009, 15:03:12
Hi, What eats dead mice? It was in a trap in a shed... so carrion birds are out I think. Do mice eat other mice? Hadn't checked it for a couple of days but the "damage" was fresh...   ???

That was my worry... the mess looks too neat for that... and none of the other stuff has been damaged...  :-\

I'd point the finger at Rats. definately too smart to pass up a free, protein - rich meal.

A rat will certainly eat a mouse. Another mouse might, as they're more omnivorous than commonly supposed, but I don't know under what circumstances.

There were those guys (I think there were footballers) who crashed in the Andes and survived by eating the dead bodies. But fortunately cases like that are seriously rare. Unless you're a Papua New Guinean honouring your deceased relative, cannibalism isn't a normal human habit!
