ok so the miss's asks me what i want for crimbo????? eeerrrmmmm i aint got a clue. but i would like a nice penknife. but what type do i get. i had a swissarmy knife when i was a youngster i do like them. what do you guys recomend? nothing to pricey though lol ;D

I guess that you'll be using it on the plot in which case how about a good lock knife.

If it's a swiss army type you're after you can't go wrong with a Victorinox, they have many variations from the minis up to the big chunky 'do everything' types, and the quality is very very good.
Otherwise a lock knife.

what if you have a break in and it gets nicked, it could happen, would you report the theft?

Jim, I think you should switch the TV off, and cancel the newspapers. ;)

As the law stands it,s only a crime to carry a lock knife in a public place not to own one so keeping it and using it in the garden or allotment is fine. Before anyone asks, it is not an offensive weapon until it is used to threaten,harm or used in commiting an offense and that ruling applies to any tool used likewise.
My own choice is a fixed blade knife with a blade length of 3 inches and a good nonslip grip. Consider a knife as a tool not a weapon and limit sales to adults. That way we might get sensible knife laws instead of the current set which will see you arrested for buying a common toolbox knife(stanley knife) and carrying it away from the shop to your car/house. It would also force the police to focus on real knife crime and not use Joe Public to pad out their crime statistics.

Jim I know that carrying one is an offence in a public place. The local police here don't consider allotments to be public places.
As to having a break in and having it stolen it is extremely unlikely that they'd even find it!

for me its a leatherman wave everytime the most versatile tool i have ever owned not cheap but in my opinion worth every penny, there is one buried on my lottie if anyone fancies one for free if they can find it and dig it up its theirs ;)

Totally agree with Hippydave - I have had a Leatherman Wave for ten years and I feel undressed without it now. Brilliant tough tool.
They have a fantastic returns policy as well. I send mine back as some idiot tried to prise up a manhole cover with it and broke one of the screwdrivers.
They asked me if I had an emotional attachement to it??!?!? Surprised by the response they said that if it was a gift or something then they would repair my one rather then send out a new one! When I got back it had been fixed, sharpened, cleaned and oiled. I use it more for work than the plot but when I dont have it doen the plot I am stumped...

I have two Victorinox knives which I have had for years, but I must admit that the lock knife is much safer, having had a normal knife blade fold up on me recently.
