Hi can someone please tell me how many days before the show should I pick my beans?
Thanks
-
The evening before or the morning of the show if you can.
-
I agree with Flighty.
A tip!
Once you have selected your exhibits ( including spares) lay them flat on a board and wrap them (board & beans) in a damp tea cloth or similar.
Leave them like this until you are ready to display them on the show bench, i.e. wait to the last minute and they should look 'fresh and just picked' rather than as can happen 'leathery'!!
Another thing; if there is a slight twist on any of them carefully put another board on top of the teacloth wrapped beans and place a building brick on top of them. With a bit of luck by the time you get them to the showbench the twist will have gone!
It might also pay you to check the freshness of your beans by breaking a few in half ( not the potential exhibits) If they break cleanly they are as you want them if they show any sign of stringiness then they are too old!! :'(
Finally ...........Best of luck and report back as to how you got on.

Thanks for your replies i will let you know how it goes

Wow Colt they are superb beans. Like you only got the plot this January. The only prize in out show on Saturday was for the ugliest veg! We had a really big looking parsnip so pulled it up. What came out was quite horrific but it took 1st in Ugliest Veg class. Will try and post a pic. Keep up the shows. We are going to have a good try next year :)
