Title: Stuffed Cabbage Recipie please
Post by: 1066 on August 18, 2009, 10:27:25
Hi
I fancy doing stuffed cabbage leaves, but want to do a veggie one. Does anyone have a tried and tested recipie? Or any ideas or links?

Thanks

Perhaps a stuffed vine leaves recipe would suit?

Doh! Good point Barnowl  :)
Was debating whether to do them in a tomato or a veggie stock........  :-\

Hmm, anything with tomato sauce and cabbage is a winner. Rice, lentils and some bread crumbs? Chop an onion and some garlic, some fresh herbs, sauté them a bit with the rice and lentils, add bread crumbs and maybe an egg to bind. Or if you're vegan, some tomato paste. Might be worthwhile to partially cook the rice and lentils, or use couscous and lentils, having done the boiling water thing with the couscous and lentils. Some fresh goat cheese would be nice stuffed inside.
Now I'm hungry...  :P

thanks Squashfan. I was also thinking along similar lines so I will cobble something together. But think I will use puy lentils instead of rice, that way we will get some protein and not just carbs  ;) and add a chopped onion, garlic, herbs, a few bits of veg that need using up, a few pine nuts, maybe a glug of wine..........  :D

I love the idea of fresh goats cheese most of all  I've seen some meat versions with grated parmesan, but I have to avoid dairy  :'(

Thanks
