Title: cordyline pruning

I bought a cordyline (or so I thought) about 5 years ago which is about 10ft tall.

Now the ones I like have a bark just like a tree that is sort of cracked and old looking with branches. Mine has leaves all the length of its trunk with no bark. The leaves at the base  have been trimmed because the leaves were dead.

Can anyone tell me if it is a cordyline or something else.

Also a garden up the road had one about 20ft which was cut down to 2ft and has sprouted lots of new growth and branches which imo looks nicer.

I would like to cut mine down to about 4ft (our lass does'nt though Lol) and get a lot of new stems what is the best way and time of year to do this.

i dont cut the leaves off the tree i pull them off it leaves a nice round trunk and  it exposes the bark that can age naturally.
