Title: When to cut down comfrey?
Post by: caroline7758 on June 14, 2009, 21:58:17: The comfrey plants grown from roots (sent to me by froglegs-thanks again!) are grwoing well and the strongest is about 4ft tall now. How do I know when to cut it?

Post by: delboy on June 14, 2009, 22:22:15: Mine flowers early - from the end of April - so I have to then wait until after the bees have had their fun.

Probably won't cut down the main crop until July as a result

Post by: saddad on June 14, 2009, 23:16:07: Some Comfrey self seed easily, so cutting before flowering stops you having loads all over the place... Some like Bocking 14 don't which is one of it's advantages... :-\

Post by: Kea on June 15, 2009, 08:50:32: I've got a plant but I don't know if it's Bocking 14 or ordinary comfrey...got it from garden centre as herb just labelled comfrey. Is there a way of telling?

Post by: Unwashed on June 15, 2009, 17:57:52: Cut mine last week. It goes over naturally after it's flowered. Popped it all on the compost heap. I get a second cut later in the summer.
