Title: Non standard sheds
Post by: BarriedaleNick on May 26, 2009, 12:27:48
Here at Barriedale we have some of the worst sheds this side of the Thames!  Most of them have been fashioned from old windows, doors, pallets, laminate flooring and are held together by goodwill  and the God of recycling!

Can anyone of you boast a more motley collection  of sheds.

Yes - i think they are more valued for the (lack of) aesthetic appeal than for any actual vocational use.
I know for a fact that Irish Tom (first pic in first post) hasn't been able to get into his shed for years.  Unfortunately we now believe it to be holding the entire plot up so he cant take it down!

My word some of those look like an accident waiting to happen. We are not allowed sheds constructed out of various bits and bobs on our site. Quite a good idea I think. Plenty of sheds coming up on freecycle if people can't afford to buy one.

yes i did wonder if that was accessable ;D

i quite like the ramshakleness of them all even though some do look like they may fall down, if it does most likely it will be on the owner who built it or decided to keep it :-\. so on their head so be it ;).

Cheers tomatoada - I've seen some of the beautiful plots folks have on this site and I was beginning to think we were the only ramshakle outfit here!!!

I realise that it's not everyone's cuppa but I prefer the look of our site to the regular lines of identical sheds on some sites.  No one has ever required major surgery as yet!   We are in Sarf london near New Cross - part of reason is that our site looks like it contains nothing as valuble as a screw - helps keep the thieves out!"

How very dare you you Sir!! Some of the those "sheds" are a lifetime's work  :P
Besides we are not allowed fires on the plot. ;)

Sheds like these aren't just assembled. It takes years of dedicated collecting and construction. Each added bit is pondered on for ages before actually being put in/on/at/to the existing part.
Works of art to be treasured.... ;D

(Did I see one of 'em with a lock on the door??  :D :D :D )

Cheers - any quality in the photos is down to the Nikon D90 and 18-105 VR  lens that came with it!!
It's a really nice camera - very happy with it.  Just wish I hadn't dropped my macro lens :'(

Here's a picture of the one that was on my lottie when I took it over.
The funny thing what was left of the roof was five feet high and the two blokes who previously had the lottie were over six foot tall ??? ??? ::)
I thought it was bad but looking at some of those sheds this looks positively posh ;D

Ta for posting Al37!
I think one of the requirements of a crap shed is that they are fundementally a pain in the backside to actually use - a short shed being a fine example.
There must be more crap sheds out there - please post pics!

They are allotment sheds not state of the art garden sheds. I have quite a nice shed and greenhouse at home but on the allotment the shed that belongs to our daughter Bunjy  and our greenhouse were both rescues. I think allotment plots should be full of character and not laid out in a regimented and uniform way. This is just my opinion, anyone is free to differ.

Manics I love it. Wish it was mine ;D. Was only telling someone yesterday about your bathroom suite. We were offered a greenhouse yesterday and we thought it would do for our Bunjy's plot. Tone phoned up about it and is going to see it on Tuesday.

Just seen this thread mentioned on the 'Shed Competition' one....

I really LOVE these ramshackle sheds!  There is a massive allotment site in Birmingham which looks a bit like a shanty town because all the sheds seem to be home-made. Much nicer than the regimented rows of identical sheds we have on our site.

I agree, (I've only just seen this thread too) I like ramshackle ones - but they have to be functional to be nice. There's ramshackle and then there's ramshackle...

I'm impressed with people who make a shed themselves out of doors and windows. I don't know how to do it. I like to aspire to it one day, when I have more time.

No one has a shed like that on our site, if they have anything, they're all the 6 x 4' Wickes sheds with the little diamond above the door.

And I LOVE the toilet planter too. Quality porcelainware on the allotment.
