Title: cane and pop bottle
Post by: campanula on December 11, 2003, 15:36:50
please someone - at my allotment site, every plot has loads of canes, often just sorta sticking there in the air....and on every one is a pop bottle. Why is this. I don't drink any sort of pop or bottled water ...am i doomed to lottie failure?
cheers, suzy

It's to scare away the birds, as the bottles reflect light and rattle in the winds.

Also to stop you poking your eye out!

You could always go down to your local recycling point and start taking bottles OUT of the bins rather than putting them in...

Definately a must to save your eyes.  My gramps had a real near miss a few years back, stabbed himself just millimeters away from his big old blues, gave himself a very bloodshot eye, stinking great big bruise, and a real reason to 'blunt' the ends.  He used to get old tennis balls from Wilmbledon Tennis club, make a hole and wedge them on the end.   8)

OMG, I can just imagine putting an eye out - the canes in my garden are all much taller than my 5 feet nothing but I guess with shorter canes.....am tempted to go for shiny tinselly stuff for birdscaring as I like a bit of sparkle.
