Post by: zigzig on April 03, 2009, 20:03:02
If I said that I could buy 4M for £5 each would you say that was a bargain or what?

I just don't know what these things cost so need help here.

Isn't a 4m long plank very heavy?

I got 12 planks and 13 poles for a tenner from a scaffold firm. When you phone them ask for condemned boards some just have cracks but perfect for the lottie. The poles are for a fruit frame and a chicken run. The boards are very heavy. Well i think so. The bloke who delivered them carried 4 at a time. Smart ass. lol.

Tried that but all ours say they have to dispose of old boards... by cutting and burning to stop "cracked" boards getting back onto sites.. (Health and safety....)

I would say still worth an ask. Both my self and simmo have got some so not impossible.

Also, do you know anyone who works on building sites ? I always find down your local is a good place to ask.

Definitely worth an ask - i got about 25 or so for free - spoke to someone who knew someone that had a yard so they delivered them for me and i could have got a lot more if i wanted.

I got mine from our local Speedy Hire.  Made friends with the bloke on the desk (gave him a few bags of veg) and I helped myself to the old and cracked boards behind their depot.  Messy job, had to get them myself, load the car (some were 4m long lol) the get them home and clean them up before cutting them to size.  Took the best part of a year.  I enquired of HSS hire shop, they just quoted 'elf and safety to me.
