Title: a weedy?
Post by: grannyjanny on March 23, 2009, 20:09:56
Does anyone know of a site with pictures of weeds. I need to identify a reed like grass that we have on our plot. It has runners like couch but is round not flat like couch.

Nice site Lishka... foolishly put it into Google and came straight back here, and to the thread in Feb... weird for us to have the top three replies in a google search...  :)

Google, eh? Oh well, Dad, if that's the case ::)

...you can cultivate all these wildflowers as pictured on the seedsite.co.uk/weeds and robsplants.com/weeds in FREEBIE BLACK BUKKITS from the Co-op, a cheap and cheerful way to bring nature right to your doorstep 8)

I don't know, but we've given her the three best sites I know of, unless anyone has any others in their files?

Hi Saddad & Hyacinth. I was posting a long reply but it didn't appear. The short answer is no. I've done this several times, if 2 people post at the same time is one wiped out?

Hello Janet, I think the answer is "no" - one won't cancel the other. I've cross-posted with peeps before  :-\

Thanks Dave for another site....if you can't beat 'em at least it helps if you know what they're called :P

Thanks everyone  for the weed sites. Still no joy. I will keep trying. The phrase "Dog & bone" spring to mind.

I'm 'bumping' this cos you know wimmen ::) Any joy, Janet? Was wondering, if nothing identifies itself at present, why not eradicate it all except just ONE plant & wait til it flowers (but not seeds) to possibly make identification easier?

btw....I Googled 'Dog and Bone,weed'.....it took me to three MOST peculiar sites :o Gracious me! 'Ad to take another pill :-[ ;D

I love these old names for weeds tho. I'm plagued by a weed which comes through the hawthorn hedge from next door...nasty sticky thing, super-abundant,  but from a small root? Found it's a cleaver....otherwise known as Sticky Willy ;D Despite the stickiness bringing me up in a rash, I've grown quite fond of this since identifying it 8)

Sounds like juncus effusus, it's considered a weed round here.

Sticky willy's a good name! It's one of my pet hates, along with ground elder.

Baccy Man. You may have won first prize. It certainly looks like it. We haven't been for a couple of days because of the weather. I will try & get a root tomorrow & take a picture. but I don't know how to post them so would have to email it.
Thanks. Janet
