Title: Vegetable planting calendar - NOW WORKS
Post by: zaz283 on March 22, 2009, 07:59:09
If, like me a few weeks ago, you're thinking you must get more organised this year & do yourself a simple planting calendar but wonder where you're going to get the time... FEAR NOT! I managed to squeeze one in suggesting what to plant each week, including multiple sowings (shown with the number beside).

You can access the printable calendar from my blog site below... it's a link under the Welcome! section on the top right. Hope you find it useful

Thanks for suggestions on hosting services after my previous posting... since Google Docs doesn't have a public share facility I used Ovi, which I already used to store & publish voice recordings of my grandchildren.

Regards, John

Brilliant John, just what a newbie like me wanted.

However...what do the figures after the various veggies relate to?

I think it's successional sowings, e.g. radishes 2 is the second sowing of radishes etc.

Great fun this gardening. Wished I started yrs ago!!

Thanks again

John

this is a really good effort and great reminder.  Especially because of all your multiple sowings.  Even if somebody  does not want to sow turnips eight times during the year, it is so useful to have multiple times at which turnips or anything else. can be sown.

I was intrigued that you sow onions and shallots in August, not winter to late winter as is usually recommended.

Thank you for this calendar.

Galina

Galina

Reading a bit of your blog, I found the answer.  You grow Japanese overwintering onions, not the ordinary ones.  All is explained.

Hi Mark S... Caroline is spot on, the numbers after the some of the vegetables relate to successional sowings so you know that you should be sowing, say, every fortnight. Sorry, should have made this clearer.

And spot on also Galina, they are Japanese overwintering onions.

Apologies about recent posts being less allotment and more other interests... working on a 'top ten tips for cheerful chickens' to try and get back to the topic in hand! But appreciate the reads.

Regards, John

I see your planner is hosted from Nokia's Ovi platform - are you aware that they are pulling the plug on this service?

Thanks for warning Normie... I did get an email and understood it was just the synch function that OVI was withdrawning... but not a good sign overall so I've transferred all my files to Windows Live and updated the links. Regards, John
