Title: Slugs active
Post by: MattD on March 17, 2009, 20:01:50
Hi all,

At the weekend I put a few beer traps out in the back garden for the slugs (made out of plastic punnets, nothing fancy).  So far I've done for about 40 of the blighters.  They're all pretty small ones - none of the really big ones seem to have overindulged .........yet.

My thinking is that if I get enough of them early enough they won't breed quite as quickly, then I can avoid using too many chemicals or having to chop them up by hand later in the season.

Anyway, in North London it seems warm enough for them to be out and about.  Tesco's value bitter seems to be a popular drink for mulluscs and I will be buying large quantities of it.

Matt

Lees is an alternate word for sediment, the sludge at the bottom of the barrel when you make beer.

They don't seem that keen on Guinness, their St Patrick's day treat.

This was to have been our best year ever for Brassica - Wife demanded!

We have lost over 100 to Slugs - untouchable under the snow.

A dozen or so are just surviving. Virtually no WSB/PSB this year for the first time ever.
