Title: White Fly
Post by: tricia on January 10, 2009, 22:11:40
I had a very bad infestation of white fly in my small GH last year - for the first time. At the end of the season when it was empty I sprayed repeatedly with bug spray (for white fly among others). I then put all my geraniums etc inside for overwintering. So far I have not seen any reappearance of white fly. Is there anything more I should do to make sure there are no larvae lurking about anywhere before I start with this years seed sowing?

Under Glass a good sulphur fumigant is your best bet, although I don't use them myself... just grow more tagetes,  :-\

try planting Tagates just outside of the greenhouse door, overflowing onto your path. Then, as you enter or leave the greenhouse, you'll brush the Tagates with your feet, releasing the pungent oils!! this helps to deter the whitefly from even entering the greenhouse. Also plant some beneath where your side wall vents are. ;)

I guess I'll have to get a sulphur candle - my GH is in a corner of my patio against the fence. I could plant some tagetes in a pot next to the door, but I don't think it would be very effective. So a sulphur candle it will have to be.
