Title: Little thread of calm
Post by: Georgie on November 20, 2008, 20:48:14
Oh dear.  There seems to be a fair amount of unhappiness and sniping around at the moment so I thought I'd start a 'happy thread' for us to share some of life's simple pleasures.

Today:

-  The sky was blue and it didn't rain.
-  My very busy mate found time to have a coffee with me.
-  Someone told me I looked well.
-  I had an email from a friend I hadn't heard from recently saying all's fine.
-  My grandaughter said hello to me on the 'phone.

Had another lovely walk with my best friends................my dogs
Spoke to my mum on the phone
Read some funny emails
Waited eagerly for the postman bringing the seed swop, looking forward to being eager again tomorrow ::)
Happy thoughts are better than sad ones :D

Good idea G ;)

The thought of friday afternoon and no work for two days.
Standing back and looking at my newly made near perfect brassica cage.
My 3 year old running in to my arms asking if we've going to the lottie.
5.50 saturday afternoon and SPURS have taken another 3 points.
Someone told me I don't look a day over 35.  :o  ;D ;D ;D

On the bus on the way home from work yesterday evening, a young man sitting on the back seat - I think he was a student - started to play his guitar.  Simple I know, but it really put a smile on my face :)  Today I went into town with my sister for a bit of shopping and tea and cake.  Not something we get to do all that much and I really enjoyed it :)

stopping at least once every day this week to enjoy the colours of the trees and leaves, even in the built up areas

the smell of a washing drying on the line in the cold crisp windy day we're having here.

Catching up with some old friends later for a curry in Manchester ( big scary trip to the city)

spending the weekend with the man I love.

I caught a bus to my doctor's surgery yesterday afternoon and was treated to a wonderful sunset all the way there.

Today I saw a woodpecker on the peanuts.  Thrilled to bits as I hadn't seen him for quite some time.

Great thread Georgie.

That's great Lorna especially that his school actually does something for their G&T pupils. My son in Year 8 a few weeks after the ofsted visit got a letter that advised me that he was Gifted and Talented in a whole list of subjects not PE and Dance. They had plans to extend these pupils etc......He's in Year 10 just sat his first GCSE Science exam modules today.....and we're still waiting.

My good news he's done 30% of the first year of Double science and I can stop stressing out for a few weeks. This morning he was saying 'I'm Ok I'll be fine but if you carry on like this you're going to make me nervous!'

My friend and I went to the garden centre for a coffee and a chat...to distract ourselves from the worry of the exams that our son's were doing and we had a nice morning despite the worry. I managed to leave without bringing a plant home.

Shrl. sounds like Mum has settled in very well, so glad for you and Tony.

Kea Thanks, he went last night so hope he keeps it up. Like your son PE and dance are not on his favourite list. His best subjects are Maths. Science and History. Good luck to your son for the future, let us know how things progress

While my son didn't enjoy the dance lessons taught at school he (and his older Brother) are into Ballroom dancing which they both love. The group is busy learning a latin medley for performance in late January, I can't wait!

Last year one was in the Samba (La bamba) and the other a bond-themed Paso doblo.

Just stood in a puppy puddle - but atleast it was right at the backdoor  :)

My son's music teacher has been brilliant. She's not his trumpet tutor but has taken a great interest in Ben and has been giving up her time to help him practice. She has been playing the piano accompaniment and giving him loads of encouragement. She even drove him to his trumpet grade and brought him home afterwards. After school hours.  She said he played beautifully.  We won't know if he's passed for a few days yet.  Ben has given his music teacher a big box of v.posh Belgian Truffles ,we are so very grateful for her help. Isn't really, really great! Was thinking to myself that when Ben grows up she is just the sort of person he will remember and I think that is so lovely.

Ben seems happy with his performance and somewhat relieved - OH found him crying in his bed yesterday morning- aaaaaaawwwww bless. He couldn't stop smiling last night and gave us a repeat performance..which the puppy,Frodo, joined in with...double act in the making  :D

Nothing to do with me personally but the radio station I listen to at work gave £1,000 to a lucky winner and she started to cry because just the day before she'd had to tell her family that there'd be no presents this year due to there being no money.  Even the DJ became choked up (good job I was alone in the office is all I can say ....) but whether she stashes it or spends it on festivities, it was lovely to think she's got a financial reprieve of sorts.  Made me cry then made me smile :) :)

I was standing outside my office today having a sneaky cigarette (yes I know I should give up etc etc) when I was approached by a rather shabby older gent who I assumed was going to try and cadge one off me.  But it turned out he was lost and needed directions. I knew the place he wanted which was only minutes away but difficult to find.  So I said I'd take him which I did and the whole way there he was saying he knew I was a lovely peep just by looking at me and asking if I was married etc.  I had to laugh but it made my day because he was grateful and I felt I'd done a good turn.   :)
