Title: Got my tickets
Post by: ACE on November 15, 2008, 20:34:02
I will be once again taking my life in my hands and  cruising over to the North Island. Eventual destination next saturday is the NEC.  Where we will be attending the Leonard Cohen gig. B&B is sorted but the only pub I know for an drink after is the Tipperary which is near where we are staying. I do not like this pub much as it is really a glorified restaurant. Does anybody know a better one in the Balsall area.

Leonard Cohen??? I know, I know, I last saw him at the 1970 IW pop festival, but I do happen to like some of  his lastest stuff.

Mentioned it to a friend online, they said try the Old Moseley Arms, Balsall Heath.  Real ales, nice fire, place for puffers outside, yadda yadda (btw, wouldn't the Brighton Centre have been a tad easier than the NEC??)

Would have been if it wasn't sold out. I tried for tickets before he extended his tour last July and the only ones I could get were in Prague. Which I was prepared to do. Then the NEC came up so we snatched them up. For a man who is not known by everybody he is very popular.

I used to live within walking distance of that pub.

Spent many a night there ,including one new years eve.

It is miles away from the NEC but worth a visit if you have plenty of time :)

Common, What do I need a red light area for. At my time in life I prefer a good gravy dinner.

But I would not mind directions to the heath

I've been a fan for over 40 years and am very apprehensive about seeing him again as I don't want the bubble to burst. I first saw him in the troubador in the late 60s doing a fill in spot. Then again later that year at one of the Isle of Wight festivals. He was good just as a man and a guitar, so your news has me looking forward to the show even more.

Absolute magic. What a great evening. 3 hours of song and no supporting artists. If anybody had told me I was going to see and enjoy a 74 year old man that I first saw nearly 40 years ago. I would have told them to go take a jump.

I think Ace meant Balsall Common, not much there - he must have been lonely.
As for Balsall Heath - Jesus wept!

You can get some of the cheapest and best curries in Balsa ll Heath :)

Good pub,as already mentioned.

Don,t know about Red Lights, may have been a long time ago.

It is a funny area of Birmingham.I used to live in Moseley, just a small walk away andI lived on a road that had some of the most expensive property in Birmingham.

Lots to do in Balsa ll common,if you like the country life. :)
