Hello all l am new to this site and would like to ask anybody out there how to grow on onions from seed. I sowed some seed on new years day and they are now growing on quite well. When sould l prick them out and so on
-
Welcome - can't help much, but - subject to correction by the experts -
They are indoors? If they are well spaced, they would normally go out early April. But they need a lot of root room, and can get into an awful tangle if too closely sown. Modules are geat for them - and leeks.
Usual planting distance is 4" - but I plant much closer 'cos I prefer smaller onions. = Tim
PS Hate to interfere - but you're using someone else's icon. Can be misleading, although no 'copyright'.

Oh dear does this mean i should have sown mine by now?
The icon was Margarets but now she is a fish is someone else using it. When we arrived here we used Dans icons but as we progressed or played we moved on. A good site is

Aw Tim! Don't be mean! If you don't know how to put your own avatar on, the choice is quite limited.
The most internet illiterate on the site! ;D ;D ;D That's me!

Meanness unintentional!!
But one gets so used to scanning for an icon - or whatever - it's better to be warned of confusion sooner than later?
Until I knew what I wanted, I did not have one. Never even heard of 'avatars'! = Tim

Totally forgiven Tim, only just learned the term myself!
Sorry, can't help with the onions. Only ever grown from sets!

You know coming on this board have learnt so much and not all gardening if you know what I mean.

So Muddy_Boots, could you share with us how to get and load an "avatar" as I would be really interested to use a more personal icon. I would be really grateful, and other newbies too, I am sure.
Thanks

Sorry to disappoint DL. I only managed to choose avatar from those available on this site. Hopefully, someone else can help you out here.
Wasn't joking when I said I am internet illiterate!!!!

If you go to page 3 of the Gallery, look under testing testing, we tackled the avatar thingy in great depth! Hope this helps ;D DP

Thanks Doris, I too was using someone elses icon, albeit unknowingly, so I went to the thread you suggested, and now have one all of my own!
