Title: Picked Pumpkin as plant has died - what now
Post by: Magnolia on September 28, 2008, 10:11:36
I have a Jack O Lantern pumpkin.  It's just over 2 kg, mostly green going slghtly orange underneath.

I've picked it early as the plant has died.  So what to do now - do I eat it?  If I leave it will it turn orange?  Will it store?  Or is it too immature?

All advice appreciated.  Thanks.

It should turn orange off the plant if it has started to turn...

I took my three off the plant that had mildew. I was advised to stand the pumpkins in full sun for a few weeks. I put them on wooden boards to keep them away from standing water.

They have all turned completly orange now - so yours should too - if we get some sun....

Wipe down with a mild solution of bleach 1-10. Then cure in a warm place. when fully cured store in a cool place. It willchange colour in storage. Will store weel once cured..to test , press a fingernail in the rind if it barely leaves an impression in , it will store, if soft it needs longer but keep an eye on it in case it was too immature to come off thr plant.

Cure in warm..store in cool
