Nearly all of the corn on my lotty has been scoffed by creatures / critters unknown.

Badgers, squirrels and mice will feast on the corn.  I believe some people cut the bottoms off plastic bottles and cover the developing cobs, or put a guard of chicken wire around them.

I have seen squirrels taking the maize cobs tha the gamekeeper grows as groundcover for the pheasents, but you usually see them carrying them away to eat.

A 750ml plastic water bottle is the perfect size.  slit it up the middle and  put the stopper end at the base of the plant.  Just don't let it get too sweaty.
