Has anyone tried growing this climber from seed? According to the blurb in the T&M catalogue it attracts bees and butterflies so I'm thinking of giving it a go next year. :)

I looked twice at the name, then looked up the plant

I can see the origin of the name when looking carefully at the blue flower.
Seems it has been used for everything from dye to a laxative.

Yes, I must say I wondered if the botanical name would be bleeped out! ;)
I think it's a beautiful plant but what I really want to know is if I've got any chance of growing it from seed in this country. I'd also welcome views on whether it attracts bees and butterflies. :)

It doesn't look like too much of a challenge:

The deep blue ones are aboslutely stunning... I think I may give them a go myself, if for no other reason than when the MIL visits!!

You need to be careful with MIL's & plant names mine once asked for advice on what to plant for a hedge that would look nice but keep people out. I sent her a guick note by email saying Rubus Cockburnianus she thought I was being rude & didn't speak to me for months.

I'd be tickled pink to grow one of those.

Years ago o/h who was a boxing fan bought an apple tree.
Told me it was called Henry Cooper.
I examined the lable and could not see where he had found the name.
Turns out it said
Heavy Cropper.
The optical aids are now in place.
