Post by: adamhill100 on August 12, 2004, 19:31:29
I thought I would have a go at making a meal from a Marrow this afternoon and it turned out very well... Stuffed the Marrow with Rice, Parsley, Chopped Rump steakk,  Fresh Toms, Runners beans curry powder & Almonds.. Salt perpper & some water.. Was verty surprised as my misses said that her only memory of stuffed Marrow made her feel sick... She actually enjoyed it herself..

Excellent!  When I did stuffed marrow I just used straight forward spag bol type tomato and mince sauce, stuffed it in the cavity, wrapped it in foil and roasted it.  Very tasty it was to!

Emma,  I think growing your own stuff actually makes you want to try different recipes as you want to make the most out of what you grow..Would love time to try and make some wine..

My favourite is the AGA recipe.
Filling - minced steak/onion/beef stock/some beadcrumbs.
Peel marrow. Cut into 1" rings. De-seed. Blanch 5min.in salted water till just crisp. Drain well. Onto oven tin & spoon in filling.

White sauce. Add tsp Dijon mustard & some mutmeg. Spoon over rings. Scatter grated cheddar over & cook till golden (30min or so). = Tim

And if you want to do it in the winter, remember to ripen your marrows on the plant before storing? = Tim

We had stuffed marrow for tea last night. My (council house, common as muck) recipe is:
Fry an onion
Peel, de-seed and split the marrow down the middle.
Mix some sausage meat, the onions and a packet of sage and onion stuffing mix together.
Stuff the marrow with the mixture.
Place on a baking tray, pour in 1/4 inch of water.
Cover with foil.
Cook @ 150 for 2 hours.
Thicken water with gravy granules.
EAT!!

Did mine (well actually it was a round courgette) with leftover couscous salad and roast pork -with a glug of soy for luck. Cook in the microwave until flesh goes soft -a few mins.
