Title: A different kind of pineapple.
Post by: Mrs Ava on August 07, 2004, 16:46:21
Another tender bulb I grew from seed.  They grow so easily from seed, it seems a waste not to do it, so I have another pot of seedlings tucked away until next year, when hopefully, one or two might start to bloom.

They are beautiful aren't they EJ! Mine are just starting to flower, and will collect some seeds from the miniature ones for you if you want? Which reminds me, Peter H how are the seeds doing I sent?!! That is what they will eventually look like!

hi EJ
excited to see your pics as I collected seed from my eucomis last year withiut knowing how to sow it (couldn't bear to waste it!), so any tips on how you got yours to grow from seed 'so easily'?  anticipating a forest of eucomis.....

Hiya Kerry, received your envelope thanks everso!  And as for the eucomis, the way I deal with the majority of my seeds, bunged them in a seed tray with seed compost, covered, watered, and low and behold, in no time at all, they were through!  Didn't plant the seed fresh, don't know if they should be freshly sown or not, but the seedlings I have now are from sowings made this March from seed harvested last autumn, so fresh-ish.  The biggest problem is them rotting off once they are germinated.  Don't overwater - my first problem when I first started growing them, and watch the slugs!

A lot of garden centers sell them as bulbs Danny, quicker route than growing from seed!
