Title: When I am not on the allotment.....
Post by: allaboutliverpool on July 10, 2008, 21:57:31
This is what I am up to in my spare time.

3 years ago it was a blank canvas, being a new house

Where have you taken the photo from?

Lots of interesting elements in your garden ... Liverpool?

The photo is from an upstairs bedroom. The effect is much better from ground level as there is a sense of height that is lostfromabove,

To the right of the coservatoy is a secluded area that is planted with shade loving plants as south is directly over the right hand fence.

My 102 year old house's garden was also a blank canvas when we moved in - all the better as far as I was concerned: I only had to clear the "field" and a few sickly shrubs (we retained the plum tree) to get started on the design, which has changed massively over the years.

that's the fun of gardening.

It is about 4pm. The sun sets and bathes the pergola in late evening sunshine, just perfect for glass of wine, mind you at midday, the pergola is nicely shaded and is also perfect for a glass of wine.

In the early morning, the patio to the left of the conservatory and below out of sight is in full sun as it rises and is perfect for a cup of coffee.

In between the coffee and the wine, I manage the short walk of about 5 minutes  to the allotment. The walk takes me along the Mersey through a wood.

I have done a page especially during writing this posting-

My house and allotment are in Liverpool 17 which is Aigburth.

For the many who do not know, aig is old English for oak, so Aigburth is place of oaks and was part of one of King John's hunting forests 800 years ago and Lodge Lane is a reminder of this, where his hunting lodge was.

The proximity of the allotment to the Mersey is seen on the Google Earth map if you click on allaboutliverpool.

In fact the spot where the allotment is next to the woods was the original bank of the Mersey, and the land between my plot and the promenade was created from the spoils of the first Mersey tunnel in the 1920's.

My only visit to Norfolk was 40 years ago when I drove to Kings Lynn one Summer and vowed never to go again because of the traffic jams! A little unfair of me to judge place so harshly based on one experience. Maybe the roads are better!

The photos of the area are on my other posting "How do you get to your allotment?

What a masterpiece to be proud of!  My garden has a shed and greenhouse.  That's about it for me.  The rest is trampoline, swings, slide and seesaw for the kids.  So in a few years............ maybe..........
