Title: Seed heads on the garlic
Post by: springbok on June 15, 2008, 18:30:20
My garlic have pointed cones on them.  I am guessing they are seed heads.

Does that mean dig them up?

The seed heads are called "scapes"

They can be used for cooking lots of nice things.

Just cut or pull them off and leave the garlic in the ground.

How big are the bulbs? I think I'd dry them off and use them once the foliage has died back. Nest time, just pick off the flower buds; they're good in stirfries.

No they'd dry out and go hard, although I suppose you could freeze them. I cut the whole stalk as soon as I see them, chop it up and add to stir fry.
