Title: Russell Lupins Pest - advice required.
Post by: purple sprouting on June 01, 2008, 19:25:37
Hi - can anyone help?

Tonight I have discovered that my Russell Lupins are covered (very heavily) in small green aphid type insects  approx. 1cm long.  Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to get rid of them or is the advice generally to destroy the plants before the infestation spreads to my other plants/veggies?

Regards

Ann

if they're 1cm long you're in big trouble. If they're big aphids (but not 1cm long) they're probably Lupin aphids. You're going to have to spray or rub them off. Ladybirds don't like them.

Many thanks RT - I've now looked up Lupid aphids and I'm sure that is what they are.  I think I panicked a bit as the little beggars were so big (and hungry!!!!).

I've sprayed them and although I won't have saved most of the plants at least I will know to look out for them in the future.
