Title: Composting spuds
Post by: Need a Leek on May 19, 2008, 16:21:43
I have found a bag of spuds in our cupboard  that have sprouted, can I put them in a composting tub that has no light getting to it and will they break down without growing?. It's just that last year I put potato peelings on our open composter and they germinated this year " which is pretty annoying".

Cheers

I know what you mean about peelings but I wouldn't with whole potatoes.

Apart from them regrowing, whats to say that they are not diseased?

There is the potential that if they are a  carrying disease this might be carried over to other plants where you use the compost material.

The choice is yours!

Good point Tee Gee, as much as I hate it they are now going in the bin and heading for a land fill site....And what a picture it will be when they develop on the land fill site and spuds appear in a lawn or two ;D.

Cheers
