Title: greenhouse shading + fly screening
Post by: withnail on May 10, 2008, 00:30:01
hi

ive got mostly seedlings in my unheated GH atm, with this hot weather, i have draped debris netting over the roof and two sides to offer some shade. this also has an inadvertent fly screen effect on the automatic vents and door.

when the seedlings are removed and replaced by my toms, cucumbers and chilli's will the debris netting have a detrimental effect on their pollination and would the absence of flies/bees make it less productive ?

im thinking it wouldn't matter, as toms and my F1 cukes (all female) dont really need pollination from bees, not sure about the chillis tbh

i  would appreciate the more experienced members advice on this

cheers

hi  :)

Last year I used debris netting with no problems but this year I`m using whitewash because it will look tidier. I hadn`t considered the fly screen advantage but I also have yellow sticky traps hanging in the greenhouse this year.

(Homebase had a sale of greenhouse stuff ;D )
