2 lots of onion seeds (alisa craig and red baron) and a lot of musselburgh leeks. Really cheered me up. In addition, I have been offered a large greenhouse from freecycle! wahoo!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm itching to get some seed compost and get sowing too. Anyone sown `beefsteak` type tomatos yet? Jamie Oliver in the Gardeners World Magazine said to sow in January...

I am sure one of this 3 gardeners were spoilt for choice as to where to plant them could it be in one of his 4 pollytunnels or 2 greenhouses?

There repeating his cooking programs at the moment if anyone is intrested.

As for me i am hoping to get some stuff  in a propagator inc starting my sweet potato this weekend :)

.

Got my first SP in water yesterday,  by tomorrow another 2L milk plastic will be freed for the purpose,  then the second SP will go in.  I noted in looking over the past threads that people reported a better result with the water being warm,  so this time the SPs will be near the radiator,
Last year
1).  I started in May --- clearly too late for the SP season.
2).  The slips started slowly. Although being on a window sill, they would have still been cold(er) than they wanted to be.

Hey Manic - love the propagator.  Can I ask how many seeds you planted per pot?  And how many plants are you aiming to grow?  Whats the yield per plant?

Reason I ask is that I have so many seeds I reckon I could easily be overwhelmed by plants.  I'm trying to figure out the happy medium between covering myself for seeds that fail to germinate etc.

Cheers,
J.

two seeds per pot, the extra will be transplanted, we'll only need 3 of each so the extras will be passed on,
yield, well, that's difficult, we grow about 10 plants, various types in the poly, maybe another 6 outside, plus tumblers in pots..
last year, we made loads of tomato sauce and supplied not only ourselves but everyone we knew with toms..it depends how many people you need to feed, if it was just us two, I'd only grow the poly ones, hope that helps  ;D

I sowed some flowers a couple of weeks back; some should (hopefully) be up in the spring, some not till spring 2009. That followed on from some more slow germinators that went in in the autumn.

I have been very giddy and started some chillis, tomatillos, celeriac and onions.

Celeriac is starting to peep through (in propagator on windowsill), wouldn't have started it yet but for someone reviving an old thread saying it needed a long growing time!

Onions peeping through - have started too many so will need to dig a bigger bed at the allotment!

Still waiting on chillis & tomatillos.

All are inside at the minute.

Now will you all stop encouraging me to sow, experiment and spend!!!
