Hi ALL. A THOUGHT FORM ME JRP, before the start of our new year 2008.
WHY? do we humans have WARS, apart from it being a legallizing way of thinning out the populations of our world, we all live in?
I SAY this because, IF GLOBLE WARming is caused by us humans, then this IS THE ONLY ANSWER, we must have A MAJOR WAR SOON TO SAVE OUR PLANET.
OR IS IT a case of every one talking A LOT OF HOT AIR.
I SAY THE WORLD HAS SIMPLY SHIFTED OFF ITS AXIS making the POLES NEARER TO THE SUN, which EFFECTS EVERYTHING, THERE CAN BE NO OTHER ANSWER?
SO It's MAKE YOUR MIND UP TIME, even though no human lives for ever, which is why we must sort it out NOW, if I say WHAT IS TRUE, simply done by CHANGING THE WAY WE LIVE, ofcause PEOPLE WILL SAY IT'S MORE EASYER TO SAY, THAN DO. BUT WHY? when the forces of WAR, and all what's involved can be used NOT TO KILL, BUT TO SAVE LIVES, AND OUR PLANET, SIMPLY DONE BY US ALL WORKING TOGETHER, especially as we were all bourn UNDER THE SAME SUN AND MOON, which effects every thing in some way, which WE CALL LIFE, which I know is running out for me, but we must do something now for our FUTURE GENERATIONS.
May we all live long and happy in this crazy world, we all live in, where other life such as animals have no say in their future, but we do. Thank you for reading my thoughts. John. J.R.P.

I can't wait for an "earth flip" personally. Sounds like a larf to me! Rather annoyingly they missed that bit off the syllabus when I was studying for my physics degree, but that's edukashun these days!
JRP, yet again I find myself thinking that you're probably a very nice chap, understandably angry at the injustice in the world, and not afraid to think up new solutions to problems. But you're also a nutter mate, seriously. You need help. Have a good Christmas anyway!

OK here it is. Line up everybody caught in posession of more than 6 plastic bottles and stack them (complete with bottles) at one of the poles until the flip occurs thereby flinging both bottles and bottle hoarders into the Ether.

Seeing as its Christmas, a rare post from me.
First, JRP, if the axis is tilting, then one pole will indeed truly get closer to the sun and hence warmer (although the new axis a few degrees further off will get cooler), but also, the opposite pole will get further from the sun and hence cooler. So the total effect averages out?
Second, Just Vegging Out, the approaching tilt you are referring to, is that not the magnetic axis that is going to flip, this is not a rotational effect ! The only thing that would change would be be compass equipment, and the effect is not expected for a considerable period of time (in human terms).
Great this site innit, where else can you get such freely voiced opinions in such a refined atmosphere :)

Around 1500 bottles but they are possessed by a school do you just exterminate the teachers and kids who built the greenhouse or do you exterminate the whole school & all the families who saved up bottles for them to use? If the latter you could save a bit of money on education, healthcare, pensions etc... at the same time.

here goes wars are for the gain of something the other person has , it is either land , diamonds , gold or oil ,etc . it is always about wanting something the other has .
now as to your idea of the earth shifting hmmmmmmm maybe maybe not , why not go out on a limb and say it was E.T playing football with the planet while we all slept lmao mate have a great christmas and do not be so down on life and as you said you don't live forever if you did what would be the point of living .

I've just received an urgent message from Prof. Nuteas Afra Utcake who has pointed out that we should remember that the world is actually flat and these pagan myths about the world being round and spinning on an axle is crass beyond words. We would of course fall of and crash into clouds full of plastic bottles.
My collegues agree though that we should still press ahead with the plan to stick all the kids up in the arctic regions while we empty out the glass bottles prior to recycling. Naturally the effort spent clearing up the glass bottles will require a prolonged period of rest without obnoxious kids waking us all up.

If I may suggest a better starting point then assuming that Prof. Nuteas Afra Utcake's theories regarding the shape of the earth are correct (certainly sounds more believable than the flip theory) how about we place a certain Mr John Richard Pendergast of Eltham, Greenwich in a boat & direct it towards the edge of this plain-et. Once we confirm he has sailed over the edge where he can continue his search for an intelligent lifeform to take his ideas seriously we can get started on transferring the children to the Arctic. We may have to come up with a new way to entertain ourselves but I believe the benefits to members of numerous internet forums would make it the best starting point despite that.

If I may SUGGEST a better starting point then assuming that Prof. Nuteas Afra Utcake's THEORIES RAGARDING THE SHAPE OF THE EARTH are correct (certainly sounds more believable than the FLIP THEORY) how about we place a certain Mr JOHN RICHARD PRENDERGAST of Eltham, Greenwich in a BOAT & direct it towards the edge of this plain-et. This is far too technical for me. I have my theories about global warming too though. Have you thought about these JRP?
Due to Strictly Come Dancing, I am told that there is a huge response by folks now taking dancing lessons all over the world, consequently there are millions of people sweating and puffing, this is raising the temp. Works in a dance hall, why not overall.
Due to number of cattle and other livestock world wide who are eating more and more refined food instead of grazing, they are consequently doing a tremendous number of bum burps,works in a lift why not overall.
Of course a tilt as JRP says would make the above two theories even more, I don't fancy standing near a cow if it f**** while standing on it's head(that is the cow, not me)
Does anyone have any more ideas more along these lines.

Isn't JRP from Mottingham? That is where my late husband lived until we married and Eltham is where I was brought up until the age of 18 (then wed) now I know why we moved to another area as soon as we were married :o.

the solution to global warming is simple - everyone in america leave their fridge doors open, and yes the americans do have a policy on global warming - drop bombs on hot countries
seriously it's all very ocmplicated and yes maybe changes in the sun contribute, but the truth is we don't know because we've only been really measuring the sun's activity properly for the last 30 years or so, since we had satellites. Something is happening and we've got to do something and man made greenhouse gases are the best explanation. It's not like CFC's and the ozone layer where the scientific explanation is so near perfect it near makes you want to weep

How about instead of sending all children to the arctic regions we train some of them to stand behind cows & collect the methane in plastic bottles, we can then ask OllieC to fly them into space when he finishes watering his spaceship where they can be dumped into the sun which is due to burn itself out in a few billion years the combination of methane & plastic should keep it going for at least another few minutes.

actually methane in the atmos seems to have stabilised over the last few years. It's probably being destroyed by ozone. Termites are a big one for methane. Solution to the cow problem - we all eat kangaroo instead- they don't produce f*arty greenhouse gases. Nicer than beef anyway

Baccy Man, here's one for you to answer, if you can, as I've just asker other world experts the same question, and that is, if we keep on building higher, as in skyscrapers for example, to house more people in places which were once flat, as in low compared to the mountains we already have, would it slow down the rotation of each section of the north or the south poles, enough to cause climat change, to add to all the other problems we already have?
YES, I do know the world is round as in circle, but when other planets pass us they pull on the earths surface, making it change shape, which makes it spin slower and unevenly?
I do believe with more and more skyscrapers being built over the years in different parts of the world, is having an effect on our climate, as in slowing down some times and then speeding up, because of air pressures, as in wind turbine rotation and drag factors? I thought I would share this thought with you, seeing as you seem to know so much, compared to me, to put me down.

Of course it's not a windup. JRP is a longstanding item of humour throughout the Internet, but he does tend to get things ever so slightly wrong. You see, the world, assuming it to be a spinning globe is spinning in a vacuum and as such there is no drag therefore no braking effect. Making tall buildings does not even change the overall weight of the planit and the tallest of the tall buildings are still small in relation even to this countries laughable sized mountains.
The reality though, is that the world is flat and is not spinning at all.
Even if the planit were to be round and the spinning slowed down by some et friction, this would not affect the climate but simply make the days and nights longer. So JRP, please go back to bed.

Actually I think the drag is caused by all the tall tomatoes that are growing on roof top gardens, that plus the flags that fly from them too, nowt to do with tall buildings
Perhaps there should be law that only determinate bush toms are allowed to grow over a certain height of building in ana effort to help the world crisis (S)

Okay John if you would like serious answers then firstly your earth flip theory:
The evolution of the obliquity (the angle between the axis of rotation and the orbital plane) is caused by the tidal effects of the Sun and of the other planets (that is the outside force).
Earth would have suffered however our large Moon carries a lot of rotational inertia and has kept us from tilting any more than we have. The Moon's tidal effect on Earth is more than double that of the Sun which cancels out the suns effect.
The paper cited below explains how this happens. It is not written in simple terms but it is understandable if you take the time (and it shows that the topic has been studied).

Now for the second question Eristic has already answered it by pointing out the earth is spinning in a vacuum therefore skyscrapers will not make a difference.
If you would like to know more about the phenomenon of wind so you can sound like you know what you are talking about then I will get you started by explaining how it is created:
It's common to say that hot air rises and cold air rushes in to take it's place. This implies the hot air rises by itself creating a vacuum that sucks the cold air in. Actually, though, what's happening is the opposite: cooler air is denser and therefore weighs more per unit volume. It exerts more pressure in all directions and squeezes the less dense, warmer air up to higher altitudes by the force of buoyancy. The movement of the cooler, denser, higher pressure air into the lower pressure zones is wind. It's more comprehensive to understand wind as caused both by the sun and by gravity.
The rotation of the earth adds an extra twist to the general phenomenon of high pressure air moving toward the equator displacing low pressure air toward the poles.
However based on your comments on the environment site (http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=110913) I am sure you will say this is rubbish as you don't believe the equator exists therefore it can't possibly have an effect on how wind is created.
Coincidentally the world is not spherical it has been clearly demonstrated by Terry Pratchett that the world is flat and travels through space on the backs of four elephants that stand on the back of a giant turtle as shown in this picture.

Calendula I don't celebrate christmas if Jesus's birthday can be moved from August to December just to try & eradicate pagan traditions then it is obviously not that important if you meant the idea of St Nicholas then that was traditionally about giving to those who needed help not about buying the latest games console for your kids so not worth celebrating either as the meaning has changed too much.
The only thing I celebrated on December 25 was my wifes birthday as it is more than my life's worth to forget it.

On a theological point the actual "Birthday" of Christ was far less central than the dating of the death and Ressurection... ie Easter which is why the latter is moveable and the former fixed...

There are lots of possible dates for the birth of christ August is popular with the majority of people I have discussed the subject with October is also suggested but all agree it is definitely not December it was moved by Theodosius I in in 391 CE to discourage people from celebrating dies natalis solis invicti.
The actual date could be anywhere between April-October based on the quote “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night” [Luke 2:8].
Even today in that region it is a common practice by shepherds to leave their flocks out in the warm summer/spring nights between April to October to feed in the green fields. After the month of October they will not leave their sheep out at night, and will lock them inside stables since the winter will be very cold and/or rainy. This itself is supposed to prove that Jesus was born somewhere between April and October when exactly is anyones guess as there is no no specific date mentioned anywhere.

If you bothered to watched the channel 4 TV programme last night at 8pm to do with Britain floods this year, it noted it was caused by the golfstream shifting from north to south, what caused it to do that was explained, but they never mentioned my skyscrapers theory, maybe they had not thought of it in the way that I have, like most of my ideas, which I believe are out side the box way of thinking, enough for some people to think I must be mad, or need medical help. But going by some of the people who do post on here I'm not alone. ;D

I assume the golfstream is the annual migration of golfing fanatics from North America to Scotland and Southwest England? And presumably it's the energy waste from their transportation that leaves a trail of warmth behind that allows e.g. palm trees to grow in Torquay..........
I can see that if their migration pattern altered, perhaps because of fear of terrorists, it might create some severe weather effects.

I'm sorry, there are plenty of people with appalling spelling who are capable of having a reasonable discussion. You on the other hand, intentionally come out with provocative viewpoints on emotive issues in order to solicit some kind of attention. You're more than happy to upset other people, purely for your own entertainment. So don't try the sympathy card, matey.

J.R.P normally I would say there's no such thing as a silly question. If you want to know something and can't find the answer for yourself the only way to find out is to ask. However people usually accept the sensible answers, in your case you assume you know the answer & will not even consider the possibility you may be mistaken so is there really any point asking the question in the first place?
Your reactions towards people who point out flaws in any ideas you come up with are not exactly pleasant for the other person.
If we looked at your longstanding 'I can, can you' thread then the idea is not new the ancient Egyptians used containers to cultivate plants which could be transported if needed ultimately that idea resulted in flowerpots. You concentrate specifically on using the system in third world countries where the containers you suggest using are not readily available nor are they designed to withstand the climatic conditions. There is no source of compost available for them to be filled with or if there was they would be using it for planting the crops grown directly in the ground although you almost hit on a good idea once when you suggested using rags soaked in s*hit as a growing medium. The problem with that would be the number of pathogens which would be passed into the foodcrops however if it was composted properly first humanure would work as a growing medium. I suggest you read the humanure handbook (http://jenkinspublishing.com/humanure_contents.html) to find out how that is done. You also greatly underestimate the problems with obtaining sufficient quantities of water to make the system work.
If you listened to other people you could find solutions to the flaws in your system & would end up with an idea that would actually work and you would have a much higher chance of getting it up & running. Until you start listening to other people you are not going to get any help with your ideas as you have accused everyone who has tried to help you deal with the flaws in your system of putting you down or been abusive towards them which is going to put them off helping you resolve any issues they can see. Instead you will continue to be viewed as an object of ridicule on the internet with a lot of crackpot theories.

JRP, from my perspective, I think that the points you tried to establish had already been clearly shown to be incapable of being right - irrespective of your spelling. Anyway, the debate being over, a little bit of banter seemed to be in order.
I agree with Ollie and Baccyman. It's really not your spelling that's the problem, the problem is your apparent inability to read, debate and learn from what anyone else says. You really aren't always right - sometimes not even close. For example your idea re skyscrapers was, to be blunt, nonsense. Perhaps once in a while you should hold your hands up and say "Yes I wasn't right about that one" or "perhaps I should modify my theory". Getting all "wounded feelings" is the least convincing stance you can adopt.
By the way, I actually thought the Golf was simply a typing mistake, not an inability to spell. If I had though that, I wouldn't have shared my little flight of fancy. It is my opinion that JRP has done more harm to the recycling movement than the entire American nation. The constant pushing of insane ideology that is so obviously insane forces everyone, even people that may be sympathetic to the cause, to distance themselves from the movement.
Recycling is good:
Making gardens out of plastic bottles is just stupid.

Hi ALL, someone said life is a compromise when talking about climate change, which effects us all. Crime effects us all too. If you know about the letter a 12 year old girl wrote to her father Garry Newlove, who died, then you will know something has to be done now to help prevent it from happening again to someone else. I say chop them will help stop them like no other punishment has. Yes chopping the whole hand off is barbaric in some countries, as the person can not change things, my way they can without going to prison, if found GUILTY beyond any shadow of doubt. I believe the law has let this loveing 12 year old girl down, because the law is a joke now, why because it's a case of all talk and no do, when the police do their job, and the judge don't just because the prisons are full. Which I'm sure is good to know if you are cought doing something wrong.
What a crazy world we all live in, and it's going to get worse the way things are going if people don't get it sorted out..

Well JRP - you sound like you are all for introducing SHARIA LAW into our civilisation? The Old testament did state and eye for and eye and the New Testament, which is the basis of law in GREAT BRITAIN advises us to turn the other cheek and to not judge people.
SHARIA LAW all up for public stonings, chopping of hands, gang rapes, etc. etc. But most of GREAT BRITAIN are not all up for SHARIA LAW.
JRP are you aiming to take us forward or backwards?

I find it interesting that the Bible (OT) may say an eye for an eye, but I don't think it says a hand for a theft - more that the thief one should repay at least double what was been stolen (e.g. four times in the case of sheep) - no mention of physical punishment that I'm aware of.
