Title: Garden birds
Post by: Grandma on December 12, 2007, 13:01:03
Now that proper, hard frosts have arrived and birds are visiting garden feeders/tables in big numbers, can I please remind peeps how important it is to make sure there is some water available for them?

(I really screwed up a wood pigeon's skating session this a.m. by pouring hot water into the birdbath!  ;))

Apparently cold water is better. Can't remember the science, something about it refreezing more slowly.

My blackbirds are fascinated by the pond at the moment because the water level has dropped so they are bathing in the marginal plant pots.  I had a couple of pheasants walk across the pond the other day when it was iced over.
