They DID turn red - it was worth the patience ;D ;D
-
Nice!!
-
You did far better than me.
-
I had lots of peppers ripen this year. I grew Californian Wonder, Jumbo, Gypsy and Peppadew (this very tall plant is currently indoors and the fruit are ripening slowly - they are lovely). I grew chilli Espanola too, which I have also brought indoors to ripen the remaining fruit. My freezers are full of peppers and chillies this year.
Tomatoes got blight and 5 different varieties of squash did very poorly.

When you reckon that a Pepper can cost between 50p & 80p............!!
-
What are the small ones at the left hand side Tim? A small variety or just ones that didn't develop fully?
:-\
-
I know for next year to grow peppers in a MUCH BIGGER POT ::)
-
They look gorgeous Lauren, bigger pot........loads of peppers :D
-
wow, tricia, mine look like that, only green.. ;D
very envious, I only like green peppers cooked :(
-
Those look great :)
I've only a few red ones so far. - may have to resort to running the GH a bit later this year with the anti frost heater on.
Are the round ones on the left Ciliega Piccante (Satan's kiss)?
-
They look brilliant Tricia - any tips?
-
My thoughts exactly Rosyred, I am so envious Tricia my peppers and aubergines grown outside at the Lotti were rubbish but theres always next year I'm not ready to give up just yet ???- so bring on those tips so I can look forward to a better 2008.

Just when my patience was running out mine turn red too. :)

My chilli's turned red on the patio in August. Peppers are still green though. I was wondering how well they'd grow outside at the allotment?
-
lucky lucky ppl... mine are still green.. the long bendy ones have brownish patches on them... but have had for weeks now! >:(
-
I've got one red one so far!
-
Mine didn't take at all, you could say my peppers went to pot. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Tricia, where did you get your Peppadew seeds? I had to scrape what I could out of the pickled ones!
-
Saddad - the little peppers on the left of the photo are my pride and joy 'Peppadews'. They obviously need lots of warmth because I had to bring them indoors to get them to ripen.
Amazin - a very kind member on another forum sent me some seeds. I'm quite sad too, because my plants were grown in my small GH with all the other peppers I mentioned and apparently peppers cross-pollinate like mad and I'm told that any saved seeds would not come true. I'm going to try to overwinter my two plants so that I have these wonderful little 'peppers with a bite' next year too.
Did your pickled seeds germinate Amazin? I'm gonna save some seeds from my plants anyway - just to see if they do grow anything like the originals.

The reason I asked is that as far as I'm aware, Peppadew seeds aren't on sale anywhere - in the world! A farmer discovered them growing on his land in South Africa, and it's the only place in the world they've been found. The farmer started up a pickling business, so they're only available pickled, not fresh. I understand security is quite tight at the farm - apparently, even the odd ones that fall when they're being picked are gathered up to prevent anyone else getting hold of them. Can't blame him I suppose - though maybe if we all joined forces we could complain to the Monopolies Commission!
Re the seeds I saved last year - yes, a couple of them did germinate, believe it or not, but they didn't survive. Mind you, I lost a fair few capsicums at the time, so just bad luck I suppose. Good luck with yours!
;D

My peppers (can't remember the variety) are still green :(
My GH is unheated, will I either have to heat the gh or bring the peppers indoors to get them to ripen do you think?
-
here are my peppers which did OK . trouble is I don,t really like them!! I got give them so felt obliged to grow them the milder ones are alright but do you think that if I took the chilli ones to the lotty plant sale that somebody would buy them
? marg
