Title: Greenhouse/ Shed
Post by: donlottie on October 14, 2007, 20:39:29
Unlike Alan42, I have had no luck what-so-ever in obtaining either a shed or greenhouse!!

Would be such a happy bunny if anyone one has one going to a good home, my lottie looks so sad without one and I am going to get wet and cold on those nasty winter days .......

Pleeeeease take pity on me

I think I may have missed a thread or two here, but have you tried putting a wanted on your local freecycle.

Also, try any local free ad mags - people are often selling for a really reasonable price.  I'm just up the A1 from you and there's often people around here looking to get rid of old sheds and greenhouses in these mags.  You can even look on the Internet for the free ad mag type websites.

Try www.adtrader.co.uk or www.loot.com

Good luck
Su

I tried freecycle but getting 50 emails a day on top of the dozens I get from Nik Kershaw fans asking if I can get him to do a gig in some outside loo in Bogner bugged the hell out of me.

your going to be even more jealous then cos i got another one given and a shed only 3 months old people moving and new people don't want them left (small children) they asked me if i wanted them both and after a 1 second think i said yes so that's 6 greenhouses and 2 sheds i have been given but still have room for more.
i found that telling as many people as possible that you want one does better as they in turn tell people they hear others and can pass your name on so tell as many people as possible what you want and that you will dismantel and move that's very important make sure you say you will dismantel and move.

MickW you can set your options on Freecycle not to receive every email.
1. Pick option to receive one daily email or...
2. Opt not to receive any emails, just sign in a view for what's on offer.

Mick...keep posting a wanted ad regularly.

Fingers crossed for you  :)

I find that if you make it widely known that you have an allotment are interested in scrap wood, glass or anything else that can be used on the plot, then people give you stuff.

I have had a free greenhouse and loads of scrap timber which I have used for making things, or just burnt

Have you tried a postcard in newsagent window?  Either that or offer to in exchange for a few hours gardening work for shed or greenhouse?

Ask/chat to as many people as will listen!  You will hear of something eventually!

Good luck!

Incidentally - if anyone around Minehead Somerset wants to get rid of a shed  - I am looking for one now!!

May as well jump on your bandwagon!

Old Bird

I found some bits that I thought I could make into a frame. I asked our committee who said they didn't want them - help yourself. When I fitted it all together I foiund it was an almost complete aluminium greenhouse frame. It needs some work in straightening out and repairing but I've got some experience after the last attack by drunks - not vandals; vandals only smash a few of the windows!

I hope to fit this together soon on the the brick wall of my shed so taht the bricks can act as a heat sink.
