I had to start this one off! I'd love to see everyone's squash here. :)
Tokyo Kabocha (Cucurbita maxima), one of the commonest winter squash in Japan. I'm not sure how much they weigh because my scales measure up to only 500g. :-\

Sweet Lightning. The largest ones weigh in at just under 600 gms but what they lack in size I am hoping they will make up with flavour.

the green and orange came off the same plant, Small sugar !! :o
the butternuts are wierd sizes, still 2, possibly 4 to go :)
-
Eristic, they are so pretty (and so many of them)! 8) How many plants did you have? I'm growing T&M trial mini pumpkin and they look similar to yours but mine is supposed to be only about 200g. I'm not sure they will ripen in time though... :-\ Hope you enjoy them! ;D
Manics, they look fab! The different coloured Small Sugar is peculiar isn't it. I wonder if they taste the same? I'm so envious with your butternuts! Mine didn't do well this year. I'm going to try again next year though. :)
-
Tora: There were 5 plants altogether and I have since found 2 more small squashes hiding in the Dhudi so that is a total of 14. Just under 3 per plant. Not sure if that is good or bad to be honest.
Not going to eat them until all the courgettes are cleared away.
-
14 fruits from 5 plants isn't bad, Eristic. I think we've done well considering the cool and wet summer we had this year. :)
My new entry, Marina di Chioggia. I put Tokyo kabocha next to them for comparison.

Wow! They look fantastic. Well done, vegging out! 8)
The butternuts are especially impressive!I didn't get any butternut this year. I must grow Ponca next year!
-
I managed one minute reject from our butternut... so I've got a serious sulk on now veggie!
:'(

I will sulk with you Saddad. I only got 2 smallish butternuts this year. Most annoying as I had rigged up a frame for them to grow up but for some reason they didn't want to . >:(
-
Finally got the digi camera and format right I hope - this was squash crop for 2007
-
Hi Suzanne,
That is an impressive crop for any year, but especially for the wet season we had in 2007!
Can I ask what the three flattish pumpkins are? The ones with the greyish skin.
-
They are Crown Prince - one of my favourites. I grew one plant of each type.
Black Futsu - med dark green and small dark green
Napoli di Gigante - ones that look like big chilli peppers
Golden Delicious - the large orange ne and the knobbly orange one
Turks Turban
Butternut squash - had already eaten one.

Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for the info. Did you grow your squash outdoors or under cover?
Also, did the Napoli di Gigante make good eating?
-
They were all grown outside. I set them off indoors in April and planted out mid-May. I did have to cover with black buckets for a couple of nights when frost was forecast in late May - but that's all.
The Napoli were rated by my brother in law for good soup and also roasted alright - but not the sweet heavy flesh of Crown Prince. If you want a few seeds of the Napoli - I am happy to send a few as I seem to have plenty left in the packet!
