Title: anyone interested in a secret santa swap?
Post by: ted72 on October 05, 2007, 22:18:07
Just a thought if anyone is interested I would be happy to organise.

Ideas welcome if people are willing to give it a go eg what goodies, price, contents.

what a good idea.

We should set a limit to no more than £5 though.

Yes £5 sounds like a reasonable figure there are plenty of goodies on offer in the shops to get something worthwhile with that amount.

Any one up for it then?

PM me if you are.

I think if enough are interested then we should set a cut off date for people to join in to give sufficient time to sort out buying and distributing goodies, how about sunday 18th november or is that too early to even think about chrimbo???

I think it's a good idea too.  I assume we are talking gardening related stuff?  I agree with a cap and £5 doesn't sound unreasonable but how about all participants agree to give summat to Dan to help with the admin?  A quid each?

fantastic, looks like there is plenty of interest.  ;D

I will contact you all by personal message to get your details to put into the hat on 19th November to draw out who your details will be passed onto. I will then send you all personal messages with details of who you're buying a present for around this date.

Please ensure that once you have the details you keep them secret, I know it sounds obvious but when I organised last year at my workplace everybody knew who was buying their present and most of the staff were putting orders in for santa.

Regarding costs, maybe limit should no more than £8 for combined cost of present and postage.

If people are interested in a making donation to the site I would be happy for you to post onto me and I will make a joint donation through my paypal account from the secret santa swap.

I suppose the present could just be based on "gardening theme" or you could give me a clue of your other interests to pass onto your secret santa.

thanks

i wonder whether it would be worthwhile those interested posting a few ideas of what they would like to receive because we dont know everyone what they like etc then when you allocate whos buying for who then we can go on and have a look at what they would like, im only talking generic ideas ie gardening, books, music, etc etc
Title: Re: anyone interested in a secret santa swap?
Post by: sarah on October 09, 2007, 17:16:16
or we could try and stick with a gardening theme to make things easier?
Title: Re: anyone interested in a secret santa swap?
Post by: caroline7758 on October 09, 2007, 17:33:06
Personally, I think it spoils it if you give people ideas of what you'd like! I don't think anyone will expect the gift to be tailor-made for them, it's the surprise that's the fun bit!And if anyone does want to choose something to fit the person, a bit of detective work by reading some of their posts might be fun, too!

Thanks very much to all those who are wanting to participate, I have made a note of all your contact details and will be sorting out the swap list tonight when I get in from work.

General rules are:

Cost of gift and postage should be no more than £8.

Ensure you keep it a secret who are buying the gift for, so not to spoil the suprise. Last year when I did this at work I put a gift tag inside[b,  the present saying who it was from, just put from santa on the outside tag.

Would be a good idea just to list house number and post code as sender on parcel, just in case it gets mislaid in the post.

Please send me a pm when you have sent your gift, also when you have recieved to ensure that I can keep track of how the swap is going.

No harm in putting a recieved message on the forum just to re assure the sender that their parcel has been delivered. May give it away if we were to put messages on stating when parcels have been posted though, unless we all agree a date for postage.

Hope all this makes sense,

trina x

I know 'I'm in' but can I just check one thing before I post off the pressie.  Am I supposed to reveal my identity or keep it secret?  I thought the whole idea was to keep it a secret but something you said earlier made me wonder, Trina.

i would like the answer to these questions too. i was thinking of sending mine quite soon. maybe we could put a note in the envelope/parcel saying its from secret santa and then say who its really from inside the pretty wrap.  i've never done one before though so it may be the wrong way. i know i would like to know who mine is from so i can say thanks.  :)

Hi sorry I've been quiet guys.

Yes sarahs suggestion to put your identity in the parcel inside the xmas paper is what I would recommend.

I recommend parcels be posted no later than 15th December to ensure delivery for the big day.

Please ensure that we stick to the price limit of £8.00 for pressie and postage.

Also don't forget to send me a pm when you have posted your parcel. Please don't post on thread because your recipient may put two and two together if they receive a parcel the next day.

All recipients please ensure you post a note on the thread when you receive your parcel to ensure safe delivery.

Thanks and happy present hunting

Now I know, Thank you Weed digga, it seems we swapped to each other, now I know why you mentioned the books after I thanked anonymously, the books are great, thank you again, there are lots in there I didn't know so am very happy for them to join my cookery library.

Much love XX Jeannine

Many thanks to Norfolklass for the lovely handmade soap collection - they smell and look gorgeous.

care of Trixiebelle – thank you Trixiebelle! ;D

and thanks very much to Tin Shed for all my loverly pressies!! (I've been meaning to buy myself a garden kneeler for ages, apparently I make involuntary "oof" noises when getting up ::)) and my old gardening gloves and secateurs have just about worn out so your pressies will go straight into action as soon as it stops raining – thank you!!

I'd also like to say thank you very much to my (anonymous) secret Santa for the imaginative 'grow your own beanstalk', mug to drink my coffee in whilst I wait for it to grow and the bath stuff to relax in afer all that hard work!  Such a super, thoughtful gift.  ;D

Well here it is, the 'magic beanstalk'.  The seed case was very dark brown, 4cm long and 2.5cm wide.  (And yes, it does say 'Happy Christmas' on it!)  Does anyone have any idea what sort of bean it is?

Hi Star

I'm afraid I had to chuck it away.   :'(  The growing tip you can see in the pic reached the kitchen ceiling with no sign of any more leaves.  :(  And there was no way I could get it out of the plastic pot it came in without serious root damage by that stage.  So if this means I'll be drummed out of the secret santa in future I quite understand.   ::)
