Title: Melons-let them out or not?
Post by: JerryB on June 22, 2004, 08:50:53
I have about 6 melon plants in a polytunnel - all going very nicely at the moment and growing like hell!!!! First yellow flowers have started to appear on them so should i remove the polytunnel????? Or would a better option be to open the ends during the day and cover them in the evening with a large sign reading 'Polinating insects this way' at the entrance???????

Thanks Les - i was worried that as they like a bit of heat and are used to it in the polytunnel that this will be a bit of a shock to them???

In St Tropez I have heard that they can look very nice ;D,but as regards the fruiting sort in UK best keep them covered and do a bit of DIY-take the male flower and rub it it into the female, use more than one male-this sounds like XXX stuff but base innuendo aside it does work.
