Post by: tricia on August 27, 2007, 21:10:40
I'd like to join this time please Rosie. Can you place me near the top of the list please? I'm having surgery on my left hand on Monday week (3 September) which means the hand will be out of action for some 6 weeks or more. This makes it difficult for me to open and then repack the parcel. Gordon is here Wednesdays and Saturdays, so if the parcel were to arrive at other times it would have to wait or those days for it to be sent on its way.

Hope I'm not being too difficult  :P.

No, not my pension, cheeky...

No, not an elephant, now you're just being silly...

A parcel? YES! A great big Spanish Galleon of a parcel!

Being topped up as I write (tricky, I know!) and on its way tomorrow to...

Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: Garjan on October 02, 2007, 14:28:18
Hi Lauren

It is even more exciting than I imagined!
My guess is that it's a bit like looking into another persons bookcase and trying to figure out what kind of person this is by the books s/he has.
The seeds will probably reveal quite a lot about the people in this chain: are there rare seeds or traditionals? strange seeds left over from experiments? seeds that require special care and knowledge? seeds that add to specific collections (tomatoes, peppers, squash)?
I will try to spot the differences with the forum as a whole.

Also I'm forever watching this thread for the reactions of the ones before me. And as I'm almost at the end of the chain, I'll be obsessed when the parcel touches Dutch ground and start hyperventilating when it is delivered at my door.

Bye for now.
Garjan

Well when I arrived home tonight (about an hour and a half ago) there was a card behind the door to say that Parcelforce had been unable to deliver a parcel at 7.25 am this morning, despite the fact that there were 3 sentient human beings up and about at that time and there is no problem with the front door bell. This is the second time in 2 weeks that Parcelforce have failed to ring our doorbell when there were people there waiting for them. The first time they actually didn't bother leaving a card either.

Anyway the problem is that my car is broken and in the garage for repairs so it will likely be Friday before I can pick up the parcel. Sorry folks!!  :-[ :-[ I'll keep you informed on its progress.

I picked it up from the sorting office this morning (haven't had a chance to open it yet though) since I had heard the strike was starting at midday today and lasting till Saturday. So it's safe for the moment. Should I wait until Monday then send it on? Or is there likely to be a log-jam of letters? Maybe there's some other carrier I could use?

Well it's on its way to Emma Jane. I sent it first class and recorded delivery so fingers crossed. The reference number is DL 3350 1229 9GB so it should be possible to track its progress online. It also means that if it gets lost we are covered up to £34 - nowhere near what it would cost to replace the contents but better than nothing.

...as i have been doing driving very late at night monday all the trucks i had seen are either royal mail, tnt or that american one in brown vans. So i guess that they were still moving some post.

Hubbie tells me we got one delivery of post this week (yesterday) and the post was all postmarked from a day before the first strike. Mother in law has had no post :(

Tomorrow will be a week since it was posted first class so if it hasn't appeared by then I'll contact Royal Mail and try to find out what has happened.

A package I had coming from the US was returned as undeliverable, and I'm being asked to pay postage at the new extortionate rate all over again. You can imagine what I think of that!

I've phoned Royal Mail who tell me that first class mail can take from 2 to 15 days to be delivered and to get back to them after 31st October if the parcel has still not arrived.

Got it!  I was away for the night and when I got home the postie had left it sitting on my doorstep!  Good job we are in a quiet neighbourhood.  More packets of seeds than Wyvales but I shall sort through, add to the mountain and send it on.  I can't remember off hand who is next as the list is downstairs, but as soon as it hits the mail system, I will pm you.

Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: carolinej on November 08, 2007, 17:17:20
Hey Ruud,

I grew green globe improved artichoke from seed this year. They are great fun, and reached about 4 ft high in just a few months. I read that you are supposed to cut off the artichokes in the first year, to strengthen the plant. I tried, but couldnt bring myself to cut a few till they were just big enough to have a mouthful or two from them. They were delicious. Only time will tell if I did the right thing. :-\

Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: ruud on November 08, 2007, 22:21:04
I did another strange thing this year after harvesting all artichokes from the only plant i had,he started to make little sideshouts from the stem of the plant, after a while i digged up the old plant and took all the sideshouts of.Now i got a row of 6 plants all growing well.
Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: carolinej on November 08, 2007, 22:29:04
Ruud, did the sideshoots have their own roots when you took them off? Sounds like a great idea for increasing the number of plants I have, without the bother of growing them from seeds.

cj :)
Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: ruud on November 09, 2007, 14:09:19
Yes they did have all roots of there own,or a part of the old roots.I did this all on a rainy day so the new plants got a real good start.

Parcel arrived here safely, but unfortunately while I was away for a few days  :(  OH went and collected it from the PO but he knows better than to get between me and my seeds  :)  so I'm afraid it didn't get  raided until yesterday evening.   Just like getting a Christmas box  ;D  Had great fun swapping 'out' and am now going to swap 'in' and try to get it in the post today.

Problem is  - next in line is Emmak and address is down on the list in the parcel as still to come :(  Emmak, I know I had your address for a swap earlier in the year but I've cleared out my pms since then - could you pm me it again?  Or Biscombe, if Emmak has sent an address since the parcel went out, could you pm it to me?  I'll also pm everyone as well as posting here.
Cheers.

I'm off again for the weekend in a few hours so will do my best to post before I go once I have an address.  If I can't manage it, they'll be a few days wait cos work hours make getting to a PO difficult.  Sorry that I'm holding everything up  :-[    Hope it doesn't mean people won't want to play with me in future  :( ;D

Ok - all ready to go (and delicious looking  ;D)  OH spent yesterday evening looking puzzled while gamely trying to take an interest, but simply decamped to the sports channel this morning when my seed box came out ready to 'swap in'  ;D ;D  There's only so much a non-grower can take!

Just waiting for the address now and it's back on the road.

Is this already one of the longer running parcels?  Maybe once it gets back to Biscombe we should just keep it circulating  and see what it ends up like - like a chinese whisper!
Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: ellkebe on November 17, 2007, 10:51:40
Heard from Biscombe saying to send the parcel on to the next person on the list.  Emmak - if you get an address to Biscombe, maybe you could get slotted back in a bit further down the list?  It's a fantastic parcel so you don't want to miss out  :)

So, parcel should be on its way soon - check back on the thread to see if it's you  ;D

HI Guys,

I think we need to decide what to do with it over christmas?

The last postal day is the 20th and i am not sure its a great idea leaving the parcel sitting in a sorting office somewhere?

Anyone else got a view on this?

Cambourne7
Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: Garjan on December 14, 2007, 09:11:50
Are you saying that between December 20 and Januari 3 there will be no postal deliveries in the UK? :o Or is there between Christmas and Newyears Eve?

If the first is the case, I would say that the person who has the parcel on the 20th has a long time picking and packing. Consider it a Christmas bonus and enjoy!

We, the people on the other end of the list, will be waiting much longer and expect something in return though ;)

Just joking. Have fun!
Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: Eristic on December 14, 2007, 11:44:34
I think that if the parcel is not in the post by Monday it should be kept safe until after the holiday period.

For those who do not fully understand the English postal system let me give a brief outline: Parcels arrive at sorting office on wheeled trolleys and placed in a neat row for the staff to process in an orderly fashion. New trolley arrivals are shunted up the line to enable a first in first out operation until

Overload occurs. New trolleys get shoved in a new line in front of the old line, then trolleys get shoved anywhere, then supervisors shoves staff, then staff shove unprocessed trolleys on outbound lorries to be queued at another sorting office for the process to be repeated. In other words, any buildup of parcels get stored on moving lorries going anywhere, until the volume reduces to normal. Parcels frequently take a month or more to escape from this loop.

Better to have the parcel safe in someones house. I too am eagerly waiting for my turn to receive the goodies but do not want it lost.

hi i'm here, sorry i forgot i was on this one too! i think it might be safer to keep hold of it until after the rush if you dont mind as i would hate for it to get lost in the post and end up under a pile of bags behind a locker in a sorting office in scotland as i hear happened to some parcels last year. they only discovered them a few weeks ago! i am looking forward to recieving it and it will be nice to be looking out for something from the posman other than winter bills! so, yes hold onto it for bit.  ;)

thanks cam but had the pleasure of it just before christmas and trust me it is not nice, having seen all the hype on the tv i am glad they are finally making people aware that this bug is a rife in the community as it is in the hospital, our ward was closed to admissions before christmas with norwalk and its source was successfully traced to a patients daughter and grandson who brought it in

Reading the thread on Jeannines pass the parcel made me worry about the progress on this one.

The parcel already got stuck once this autumn due to a postal strike, so I'm wondering if we shouldn't post clues as to where it is heading?
That way the next receiver knows whether to expect the package and can possibly undertake some action when it is over due.

Sensible or just too much worries ?  :-\

Its my fault i had to attend to something (will post next week when its all confirmed).

Package has been wrapped (eventualy its a little full) and its going to the post office tomorrow, going to the big central post office as post i send from the small one tends to get stuck.

So someone in Derby is going to be very very happy Deb P :)

Appologies for the delay :)

Parcel is now resting its weary wings at my place.

Running order now is as follows:

blisters
flowerlady
Lady Cosmos

And I believe there are further Continental additions not on the posted list.

I will try hard to evict the box on Monday.
Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: Garjan on February 03, 2008, 20:19:05
It's getting closer!!!
There are at least two continentals before Lady Cosmos, and I am one of them. This PTP is really exciting.

BTW I reckon that posting the parcel across the North Sea is much more expensive than sending it around the UK. I'm perfectly willing to share the costs. Just PM me and I'll figure out how to go about it.

Lets send the lovely Flowerlady something nice! she's the one with the extra postage costs..... It was pricey from Spain originally but guess it's much bigger now!

Erestic and Biscombe..... I think something is going wrong!!
Febr 2 Erestic is writing about the running order but that has been changed for a while.
Flowerlady - Ruud- Gartjan and than to me and than to you Rosie again..... That is how it has been changed..... and confirmed with Biscombe, Flowerlady, Ruud and Gartjan,

I don't think there is any cause to panic. I just quoted from the printed list included with the parcel and I have posted on to blisters.

As long as flowerlady posts onwards to the correct Continental address everything will work out fine. Presumably flowerlady has already been given the required address for the next stop.

Yep! Lady Cosmos thats the correct running order, we have a few more names over the pond that have been added! It's getting round fast this time!  ;D

Not really, when I have time I'll start another one, I'm sure when the parcel comes back there will be far too many seeds for me to use!

I'm a bit snowed under at the moment, this is the second time around for this parcel! I'm sure I'll be on it's 3rd leg fairly soon!

Thought the courier came to deliver THE parcel, but he didn't.  :'(
He did give me a very large piece of fleece, however.
Apparently KG Mag gives you a present every year when continuing the subscription.;D

Now I'm expecting THE parcel this evening.
I'll try to have it in the postoffice before Friday and Lady Cosmos will receive it this weekend. Then it is off to Spain.

Will it go round for a fourth time? Ruud said it is collossal and I reckon that Lady Cosmos, Biscome and me do not have enough space to use all the seeds in the package.
Title: Re: Extended Spanish pass the parcel?
Post by: Garjan on February 21, 2008, 20:14:00
The parcel came this evening and it is huge!
And cannot remember being this excited: thumping heart, fluttering stomach and probably butterflies around my head.

I selected some very nice varieties of beans and tomatoes. Added some varieties of my collection and wrapped it up.
I will recycle the very strong and big box Ruud repackaged the parcel in (Well done Ruud  :-*), so all the seeds will be well protected.

OH will drop it at the postoffice as I am off to Paris tomorrow. So Lady Cosmos, get yourself a cup of tea and a comfortable chair near the letterbox. It will arrive Monday probably, Saturday with a lot of luck.
Enjoy.
