We had our allotment show this afternoon and me and my youngest were lucky enough to win with our exhibits :D

I won with my cucumber, heaviest pumpkin and a parsnip wine i made and i came second in squash with Bianco lungi.

Sam won first with the tallest sunflower at 8 foot 5 and he won the miniture garden category :D
It was a really good day and the weather was great :)

Our was due to be held today, but it was cancelled as half the site had been underwater, and a lot of people, including me, had lost all their potential exhibits.

WOW!. I am obviously doing something wrong as none of my foods grow that big. They are eaten before any show comes around mind you.
How did you grow your pumpkin to that size? What variety is it?

Woohoo! Congrats. Our next village show is in September and I have to remember not to keep eating things but try to leave them in the ground ready for the show!

Our allotment soil is very stoney so we don't have much trouble with flooding as it drains away vey quickly :)
I did leave the cucumber to grow larger we normally eat them a lot smaller than the one in the photo.
The pumpkin is the smallest of three large ones i have, it is from seed from a normal pumpkin we bought at halloween. I grow it the greenhouse then put it out in May and pollinated it myself. The plant it is from seems to be dying though so i was lucky i could use the pumpkin. They weighed it on some bathroom scales and it weighed 15 pounds ;D

I pleased to see you that you had some success but even more pleased that you have involved your family as well, after all these are our successors.

I gave up showing in 1997/8 for health reasons (it wasn't good for my blood pressure) this is a sign of how things were for me at the time.

ps if you think taking the picture is a bit egotistical its not meant to be, it was taken for insurance purposes i.e. the trophies were put away in a black bin liner after the picture was taken until such times as they were required to be returned.
I did this because at the time there were a number of house break ins in our area and I didn't want to take the chance that all the history that was on those trophies might be lost.
Like in Roberts area I noticed that the village show I visit each year has had to be canceled because of the exceptionally bad season most people have had.
I really miss the camaraderie that there was with all the competitors so hopefully you and you youngest aspire to greater things.
Just think of it this way; it is something to hold your attention for much of the year, you get the buzz from competing (win or lose) and you can eat your produce after it.
What more can you want!

I will show Sam and his older brother, i also take my grandson down to the plot every weekday morning to help me out and he instinctively knows to pick red strawberries only which i thought was amazing :) :) He is only 16 months old !

well done Legendaryone, we have our Allotment show this Saturday. Just hope the current wind and rain down here won't batter everything down.

We had our show on Saturday, but the occasional bouts of rain spoilt it a bit. Put loads of entries in and did well, but not up to TeeGee's standard. Proudest of my figs - they even got into the local paper, unfortunately with a picture of me as well!

the figs look gorgeous, how do you eat yours? I have been and picked some things ready for our show tomorrow, had to get OH, a blanket and wheelbarrow for the pumpkin, I am sure i got the seeds from Cambourne, here on A4all, need to check the names now! Met a lady as i left the plot who said she is 120th on the list in her area of London,she is even down for a plot share, but has been told it could be years...poor girl.
