where's Tales of the Riverbank with Hammy the Hamster????

I thought the Woodentops were rubbish when I was little. It was always disappointing when it was their turn on Children Hour (or whatever it was called)

How can they have missed off the Wombles from their list - not only a great children's program but ground breaking in its presentation of green issues and recycling!!!!

The Herbs were FAB! Dill the dog, Parsley the Lion!

I liked Hectors House as well - but Kiki the frog freaked me out. Always popping up over the wall when you least expected it. A voyeuristic amphibian.

Hector was a miserable old git but I sort of bonded with him when I was 5.

The Clangers: Oh yes! Class programme! And the soup dragon ... I was inventing recipes for the underground reptilian version of Jamie Oliver when I was 6.

Old Mother Riley was Arther Lucan, he died on stage at the Tivoli in Hull and is buried here.

His wife was Kitty McShane ,she played his daughter Kitty in the films.

I Love Lucy and Bilko!
Title: Re: nostalgia fest!!!
Post by: Trixiebelle on August 10, 2007, 17:01:07
BILKO IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE EMAGGS!!

My late Grandad was Colonel Hall's doppleganger - he lived in Goole though, so I know it wasn't him really  ;D

Did you know: Phil Silvers starred in Marilyn Monroe's last ever film 'Something's Got to Give'. She died before it was finished.

And poor old Phil ended his days believing he was actually Bilko  :(

I am such a MINE of useful information it frightens me sometimes  ::)

And my daughter Daisy calls me Grandma Clampitt since we got the Ford pick-up truck  ;D She's not far wrong actually .....
Title: Re: nostalgia fest!!!
Post by: Rhubarb Thrasher on August 10, 2007, 17:41:55
the actor playing Colonel Hall was called "Melon Head"

remember the series phil siver's did after Bilko was taken off after the US army complained about it? set in a factory, same kind of tricks, not very good

Don't remember that Rhubarb. I was probably an embryo at the time!
Title: Re: nostalgia fest!!!
Post by: Trixiebelle on August 10, 2007, 18:10:16
Got any links to it? And why did the US army get it taken off air?

Nooooo .... don't tell me  ::)
Title: Re: nostalgia fest!!!
Post by: Rhubarb Thrasher on August 10, 2007, 18:23:43
I certainly remember him being interviewed on TV here being not happy after it was cancelled. Wiki says it was too expensive not that the army didn't like it

The factory thing had some light or siren that went off warning them that someone important was coming and they had hidden rooms etc  to hide the card games etc It was called "The New phil Silvers Show"

Remember "Carry on -Follow that Camel"?
Title: Re: nostalgia fest!!!

We have all the Carry on Movies and they have to go!!
Title: Re: nostalgia fest!!!
Post by: Rhubarb Thrasher on August 10, 2007, 19:04:59
I hope you haven't got "Carry on Columbus" or "Carry on Emmanuel", Jeannine. "Carry on England" was also dreadful (not that i've seen the first two).
Title: Re: nostalgia fest!!!
Post by: Trixiebelle on August 10, 2007, 19:15:21
Some Carry on films were HORRIBLY politically incorrect. Carry on up the Khyber is the latest one that I've seen again and thought 'Oh my goodness & FOR F**CK'S SAKE.

But having said that. The Carry on films that didn't have a political or social agenda were genuinely funny.

The Carry on Lord giveth, and the Carry on Lord taketh away!

Watch Carry On Screaming or Carry on at Your Covenience. These are the mainstays.

Carry on up the Kyber is definitely the best. It (almost) qualifies as a good film (That'll teach them to ban turbans on the buses!). the dinner party at the end is a hoot

They're very popular in India

Carry on Screaming

Foul
Feet
Smell
Something Horrible

Rhubarb Thrasher! Let me take this opportinuty to thrash you where your rhubarb don't shine!

I suspect that last post was ironic .. but I can't be objective at the moment. Just ordered a curry (honest to goodness) My head is ON FIRE.

How about this one?

if ordering a curry makes your head go on fire TB, what happens when you actually eat it? I made a curry from scratch tonite so i.m better than you.

Ealing Comedies are truly great films. Carry On films are things we grew up with, so they're great for us, but not really great films. (My that's a big one! I'm from Texas Mam. We've all got big ones there. It's not exactly Oscar Wilde, is it?)

Abba in Ramones Style (http://www.gabba.co.uk/pinhead.mp3)

We never had TV when I was little, but I remember Larry the Lamb on the radio, and the policeman who was always taking peoples' names and addresses. I don't think that would deter the local youth for long!

ARGGHH! I hate Mars bars but nevertheless, that clip is funny on account of Delia's smock. I'm not a fan of sweet things, especially deep-fried

Why does that not surprise me!

My favourates would have to be ......
The old hammer house of horror movies...Boris Karloff, Bella Lugosi, Vincent Price, and Christopher Lee.   (I know I was a weird wean, and out of bed far later than I should have been)
There was a double bill on a Friday night and they came under the heading of "Don't watch alone!" ;D ;D ;D     scared the cr*p out of me ;D ;D ;D
I used to watch normal stuff too   :-\
Bagpuss,
Bill and Ben,
Andy Pandy.
Oh I nearly forgot....Did that bl***y Zebedee(spell) in the Magic Roundabout rack anybody else off, with his pinging all over the place?  ;D ;D ;D
               I Really Hated Him >:(             ;D ;D ;D
