Title: 2007 Strawberries
Post by: Tinkie_Bear on June 27, 2007, 19:31:49
Very impressed with my monster strawberry, Maxim from Ken Muir, plants brought in the autumn.

I always assumed the photos in the book were the strawbs in a kids hand but maybe not - this is in my hand ...

And this is the same strawb next to a trolly pound to a) give it some scale and b) prove I don't have very small hands :-)

Not only are they monsters but are very tasty too, very pleased the plants are making loads of runners.

Hope yoours have been as sucessful.

I've also had some large fruit from my first year Maxim plants, but I was disappointed with the flavour.........everyone's taste is different I know, I'm giving Marshmello a go now, got some half price chilled plants at GWL that are leafing up nicely in the rain.... ;D

We have Marshmellow - they are lovely, and we have passed on hundreds of runners to friends.

wow they look amazing.

I have about 8 large (but smaller then the one you posted) stawberrys which we cant face eating and its not enough for jam so i have stuck them in the freezer.

Whats the flavour like on the big ones?

The big boys I grew are not as tasty as some of the smaller ones but are 1000% better than the ones commercialy grown - they taste like a strawberry should !

I am very pleased they have made so many runners, there will be a bumper havest next year !!!

Best year ever for strawberries.  Season lasts us about 6 weeks.  I don't know the varieties as they have all been given to me.
