Title: am I being too suspicious
Post by: manicscousers on May 30, 2007, 18:51:09
and what would you do
there's a derelict farm near us, when we go past it sometimes, there's a big white van, sometimes a car as well, the van's doors are open and it's backed up to the barn door..when it's not there, he door's closed with all sorts of rubbish piled up outside it
do I do something or am I too suspicious
your ideas, please  :)

Sounds very fishy to me.

Reasons...

An illicit love affair.

New owners, looking over the place.

Old owners reminiscing about the older days.

Drug smugglers.

Drug growers.

It's full of illegal immigrants.

All very odd. I like number one best, but I think I would be being more nosey, can you see inside through a crack. With caution I might add.

I think I would be phoning somewhere.

But then I am suspicious too, definately sound fishy to me,and that is what block watch is all about.

I don't think I can get near enough to look, it's on it's own , the whole place is falling down so, I don't think anyone's thinking of buying it, they're not looking around, just in the barn, a few times now..I don't want to waste police time, they've got enough to do, especially if it's only something silly
wondering about crime stoppers ?

Title: Re: am I being too suspicious

Actually it could be fly tippers you know, they could have found an isolated spot to dump something bad on a regular basis, it does happen, and they would put it out of sight, that's worth a  thought.

If they are going to the trouble of putting junk on front of the door, there is some reason why they don't want people to go in the barn and it would seem strange that they would take the risk of leaving something valuable in there, even if it was stolen.

Do they always come at the same time?

Worrying isn't it? If you do nothing, and later on it turns out something really bad was going on, you will never forgive yourself. My choice would be crimestoppers. Just explain it as you have to us, it's anonymous and you may well be helping someone out!

If i was in your shoes i would be straight down to my local Police Station and report it. The reality is we live in a world of terrorism as well as organised crime and drug related crimes. What you have seen may be nothing but no one will ever criticise you for for reporting it, on the other hand if you don,t and what you have seen results in the loss of life you have to live with that for the rest of your life.
I have known a few people who have never completed the sentence " It will never happen to me".

Do you know who owns the property? Farm buildings are often rented out for storage. My brother rents one. He just keeps dirty bulky stuff for his work there, nothing valuable. I'd ask around the neibourhood, spread the word about what you've seen, someone will know something.

Call the police then you've done your bit , it's off your shoulders and in the hands of the people who should be dealing with it. Simple pimple.

If it's nothing...it's nothing,if it turns out to be criminal then well done to you.

This should give you a laugh then!

A few years ago I was walking my 4 dogs and my friends 4 large gun dogs on Exmoor in a forest late autumn time!
Went round a corner and there was a man crouching down with a back pack on and he was holding a knife.  I though Oh my lord!  Not wanting to turn tail in case it gave him the idea to chase me - I can run but I was 2 miles from any habitation! I decided to walk past said man.

He stood up and said in a foreign accent "you have a lot of dogs" thankfully I thought Yes I do! and then I carried on - trouble was I was on a round route and needed to walk to top to get back home whereby he may have doubled back.  I was pretty hot and sweaty by the time I got home!  Called the police who immediately sent out a couple of cars.

They came back about 3 hours later - splitting their sides with mirth - the "man with a knife" was none other than a local Italian Restauranteur who was out looking for fungi - which is why he was crouched down looking along at ground level for fungi!

He saw the funny side - so did I but makes you think though!

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Old Bird

I'd call the police too, and let them deal with it.  Like everyone else has said, it could be goodness knows what going on there, and genuine people won't mind being asked a few questions.  Let us know the outcome!  (& be careful!) x

I just knew someone was gonna ask me that!!

When we lived in Canada on acreage   my son rang one day and asked me if I could use some used potting soil, he said his friends dad  used a lot  for his flower hobby and he replaces it often.

Well of course I said yes, and they brought it...a small truck load, it was dumped on my veggie plot and I thought it was fantastic. I got it for a couple of years. I remember once asking why his Dad didn't put it on his own garden and I was told it was paved and all his 'flowers' where in the greenhouses.

Eventually someone else I knew cottoned on and told me. I couldn't
believe I was that naive. I never figured out why it didn't dawn on me actually cos I got about three loads a year.

I challenged my son's friend and he told me the truth. Apparently finding a place to dump it is a problem, unless they find a very gullible idiot like me.

Now come on Emmy. where would I find the room with all my squash and tomatoes.

Besides it smells like burning grass,I smell it all the time on home visits, and if I really did want some I know who sells what on the estate I work on. When they get a new stock just listen for the fireworks.1 going off means the duty free cigarettes have arrived, 2 going off means the drugs are in stock.

MMMmmm, they do tell me it is good for pain though.

Back to work tomorrow... dum diddy diddy diddy dum.

Got this today from our local police

Do you know who is living in the house next door? Would you know if your neighbours were involved in drug-related or other criminal activity?

We need you to help us tackle the production and supply of cannabis and other illegal drugs. You can do this by being alert to unusual behaviour and being vigilant in reporting suspicious activity to the pollice.

Some of the tell-tale signs that a factory is being set up are:-

Curtains are constantly drawn.
No-one seems to be living in the property There is a strange smell Paper is put up at the windows There is excess heat coming from the property There is condensation on the windows or even on the brick work of the house

just had three big raids around here.................police found three dope factorys up and running in some metal containers.....like the type on the back of lorrys.
and whilst on the subject.....................

i used to keep birds in outdoor aviarys................some freinds of mine who partake in natural smoking material became very interested one year when i decided to let grow what dropped from the seed bowls instead of cleaning it all up.
all became clear when i got a visit from the local constabulary informing me that the pretty plants growing in my flights were in fact cannabis plants!
they accepted my ignorance..............but it caused quite a lot of amusement amongst my natural smoking mates that id had the drug squad in to clean my aviarys......lol
oh..............and im so pleased that i never gave some of the plants to my mum..she saw them too....and asked if she could take some of the "pretty plants".to put in her garden!

strange tho.................the birds that ate those plants seemed a lot happier then..............lol

I once moved into a house with a very ferny looking plant in the border by the front door.  I didn't know what it was but tended it carefully as it looked pretty.

My son came one day and casually said, " your cannabis plant looks good Mum"

I almost died on the spot, rushed outside, uprooted it and bit by bit I flushed it.

All my son could say was" Mum, you could have got some good money for that"

This was my second experience with finding a pot plant, I will tell you other one some other time.

When my late husband was in really bad pain with severe arthritis (plus other conditions) he mentioned to a person we knew that if he knew where he could get some cannabis he would even try that. Pain killers didn't agree with him.
Cut a long story short he received a few "smokes".. He hadn't smoked cigs for 25years. He tried one of the smokes and nearly choked to death!!! He said never again I will put up with the pain. 2 years after his death I found the remaining smokes. I was so worried I stood in the loo and carefully broke them up and flushed them down the loo. I bet the sewer rats were happy for a while.

It is in a hand printed cookbook on self sufficiency from a commune in Lousianna, apart from the few silly recipes it is actually quite good,I would of course never bake it or give anyone the recipe as I entirely agree with Heldi.  It also has a chapter on growing tobacco and drying it and skinning a possum.

It is not a laughing matter either but I have heard some funny stories connected to pot, but the basis of those is scary too.

Thanks Jeannine. I get bit annoyed about the fact that what the effects of particularly cannabis are,are not spoken about truthfully . Both the good and bad.

You think you know about something and then it turns around and punches you in the face like what happened to me. I want people to be aware even though I find the whole episode embarrassing to admit to, very stupid of me and extremely scary.

What you gonna do, if you go and read the notice and it says... If you are reading this you are too close!!!

Hey maaaaaaaaaaan,

The baaaaaaaaarn is just where us sheep hang out. Its baaaaaaaaarlliant - bleating heaven.

For the last 8 years,  3 months each summer  11 ewes and 3 rams all hunker down in this here shed for a rave and to bleat at each other .

On Fridays this white van turns up, drops off some grass and some barrels of sheepdip and then drags one us away for slaughtering, however there's a rumor in the herd that 4 young rams will be joining us this week.

I get bleated at 'cause my farmer marked my coat with some red dye. He told me "Its only a trace - DEAL WITH IT."

Hey, Manic, no peeking, you'll get us all evicted - but if your passing, we could do with some more fags and sheepdip. On second thoughts, there are already too many fags in here already !

after all those fertile imaginations running riot, how disappointing ... perhaps we should have a competition for the best nonsense notice and stick it next to the official one

there's been a blue people carrier there a few times  not at the barn, parked lower down the track..but no-one in a white van, maybe I'm not there at the right time, hopefully, the local 'community' police are keeping their eyes peeled, it's really annoying, they used to be there at least 4 times a week !!  ;D
