Title: 8 Sweet Potatoe Slips to give away to free home
Post by: Jitterbug on May 22, 2007, 16:25:22
I have about 6-8 slips going spare.  Let me know if you want they are Kamaru.  First nothing and then - WOW - more than I can handle... Don't need anything in return.

I'm a newbie, and (hangs head in shame...) don't know what a sweet potato 'slip' is. But I do love sweet potatoes, so I'd love to have them - if someone will tell me what to do with 'em!

Hi All

Sorry I have not answered before but I have been away for the bank holiday.  I have checked my sweet potato slips and have 5 well rooted slips and the actual host potato that has good roots which I will chisel up and distribute as follows:

Glow 777, Jeannine, Cardinal Flower, Tilts, Rosyred, Blue Bird and More Courgettes.  For those of you who have not yet sent me their addresses please do and I will get them into the post in the next couple of days.  I am thinking of the best way to post these slips.  Any ideas???

I've posted plants in small plastic drinks bottles:

Cut 3/4 of the way around the bottle, about an inch up from the base, leaving it hinged on one side.

Wrap roots of plants in damp kitchen paper.

Wrap plants in bubble wrap (or gently in foil) to fit snuggly in bottle.

Put in bottle.

Tape bottle back together with strong tape.  Once complete again its very difficult to squash, so the plants are quite protected inside.

Stick on label etc and ignore funny looks at your local post office when you go to post it ;D

And probably best to post early in the week so it doesn't sit over the weekend in a hot sorting office...

Still need addresses from More Courgettes, Farmerfen and Bluebird
