This one's about 20 years old but still in production, I believe  ::)

How does that work then?  Thought you'd dropped a corkscrew in your bowl.  :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that corskcrew just being used as a weight to hold the artichoke under the water? If so, couldn't you just place a plate or something over the top? Is the water salty by any chance too?

OK hands held high - rushed in tonight after cutting them, found suitably sized bowl, filled with water and opened kitchen drawer. Even a saucer wouldn't have held them down as they're only ickle and would have opened by the time we got back from hols.  :(

Have visited Hyde Hall gardens today and their artichkes didn't have greenfly - aargh, its just not fair.
