Planted three rows of earlies (Arran Pilot) back on 28 March. The flowers are developing on some and are dropping on others. I understand that the potatoes should be ready once the flowers have dropped but that normally this takes 13 weeks from planting. As mine are only 9 weeks from planting does anyone know whether they are likely to be ready or whether I should leave them another couple of weeks? I haven't dug around any yet to see what is there. Likewise there has been no rain for some weeks, though it is forecast for this weekend, so wondered whether it would be better to leave them until after the rain.
This is my first full year on the allotment and I am perhaps too eager to start harvesting.
Any advice welcome.

Bath Bun, I have been harvesting mine and they are not flowering yet! I would dig around the base, or pull one up, (if you have plenty) to see how they are doing. We like ours small which is why I harvest early, and I need the space for summit else ;D Dottie P

I will assume you have earthed them up;
If so just scrape some of the soil back to expose the tubers. If they are of a size suited to your needs then lift them, if not, cover them back up.

My mother put in "bags" some spuds in February. She regularly earthed up til the bag was full. The potatoes grew well, and flowered (started to flower 3 weeks ago). She thought she would harvest them today - well, they weren't very big and she was disappointed. Dunno what variety they were.
I had a little dig with hands to see what my flowering first earlies are like, but found quite a small tuber, so I think they need another fortnight or so, at least.
