Title: Info for Newbies .Made some good cheap cloches today
Post by: Jeannine on April 15, 2007, 21:04:46
Info for newbies.... We made a couple of long cloches today which I am very proud of. We cut  6 foot lengths of bright blue water pipe we got as a freebie. Drove concrete reinforcing rods into the ground  4 each side per cloche till about 2 feet high ,placed the water pipe over the rod  then arched it to the other side. Covered with clear plastic, gathered at each end and pegged down.  Cloches are about 30 inches wide x 10 feet long x about 30 inches high. Size easily adjusted by moving rods. Very strong. Cost per each about £8. In went my summer squash XX Jeannine

The concrete reinforcing rods are a great idea - I've been using bamboo but of course that will rot a lot faster than reinforcing rods rust! Off to the builders merchant I go!
