Perhaps I'm a bit of a misanthrope but I find relentless super cheerfulness (Ms Klein?)  a bit wearisome. Pick up the odd good tip though and she visits some interesting gardens

I agree Barnowl, she's nice but a bit too obsessed, the old bloke next door is hilarious.

Should really be a sitcom like Terry and June.

I love the programme, she may get over excited but she's real nothing fancy, great veiwing, theirs no swearing no talking crap no fancy use of stuff, just one real person and one real loved hobbie.

keep it real christine.

! love Christine too.    :-*    The female Fred Dibnah comment cracked me up. I love her to bits, her enthusiasm and realness is great.

I think she's a breath of fresh air and totally ecentric. Went to a gardening talk by her a few weeks ago and she is exactly the same - it was hilarious -but what enthusiasum. She is on Essex Radio' s gardening programme at the moment talking about the actual filming of the programme, as well as taking lots of calls about plants.

Do like the programe but find her very childish all that jumping up and down and running around - good tips and find the old man refreshing

I find Christine very entertaining and 'down to earth' and I'd completely agree with this comment she reminds me of a female Fred Dibner     I'm a huge fan of the late Fred  :)

Both of them have/had such enthusiasm for their chosen way of life.

I watched it too and read her articles in Amateur Gardening mag.  I was laughing ny head off on Friday when she was skidding down that gravel road, screeching to a halt and probably contravening many highway laws to do with safe driving, just to look at a little flower!

Nutty as a fruit cake, but I enjoy watching her to.  LOVE her neighbour, he is the highlight of the program.  Sometimes it is just nice to watch something and not have to think, just to sit back and let is entertain you, and it does.  ;D

(oh yeah, back on line - whoppee!)

I saw some of the last series and part of one of this (assuming there have been two so far?). Think she gives v. good practical tips and that is a good thing, but... (big pause while I try not to be unkind... ::))....s*ddit I'll say it.... don't like her. Find her patronising manner to and about the lovely neighbour quite out of order. If I was his wife I'd be tempted to give her a cup of hemlock to have along with the apple pie - now that would be a laugh  ;)

Have to agree with you Lish.  Probably her heart is in the right place, but something about her really gets on my nerves. Don't want to be unkind, but somehow think if Victoria Wood was doing a sketch about a gardening lady, Christine would be it!  :-\ busy_lizzie

I enjoyed it far more than the following programme. ;D ;)( talk about beauty being in the eye of the beholder...that's a pond?) Thought she was 'quaint'. She made me smile and it was very easy watching as peeps have already said. I think her demos would be entertaining to say the least.

Post by: Amazin on April 04, 2007, 00:22:23
I could probably listen to her if she was giving a talk, but the programme leaves me absolutely cold. I suspect a lot of her little 'insights' are filmed separately and edited in to give the show  more of an 'aah factor'. I think there's too much playing to the camera, and it comes across as being a little too forced for my liking.

I'd take that as a compliment!! Then again i'm a bit odd. Still, poor Christine. Don't think she cares much for the title of fav presenter, just gardening. Many like her can be found in Bolton and surrounding area. Tek her as you find her or bog off i think is the attitude.
Title: Re: christines garden
Post by: Hyacinth on April 04, 2007, 14:24:30
What I really do like is that she is a gardener who gardens at home...no greenhouse, you noticed that? no polytunnel, no carefully raked, stone-free soil to work with. Grows from seeds indoors & brings the plants on in the kitchen....sounds familiar? 8)
Title: Re: christines garden
Post by: Heldi on April 04, 2007, 16:51:50
I watch her programme because her tips are good. I do find her a bit irritating and I can't stand all the close ups of her face lol. I don't need to see her nose in detail thanks. Why do programme makers do that? Urgh stop it now!!!!

I'm interested in what she is doing with the railway embankment. Think she is brilliant there. I like to see her garden and hear her talk about it.

Agree with Lish about the way she speaks to Reg sometimes. It makes me cringe. I did call her a lazy moo when she cut down Reg's tree last week, then left him to clear up on his own. Now I'm admitting to talking to the television.

(Hoo hoo, hee hee, screech ,scream, jumping up and down in Christine type fashion.)

 ;D

i,v got a confession to make, don,t watch many gardening progs as OH isn,t keen and hogs the remote but just as the last series finished a friendly couple on our site said that there was a lovely woman on tv that reminded them of me!! so i had to watch didn,t i, well i always was, well shall i say plain thats being kind to me also have a generous nose (and rear) i,m quite smiley and chatty thought i,d kept the fact that i,m completly mad under wraps can,t help wondering  i wish it was her gardening knowledge thats for sure   so of course i like cuz some thing of her is like me :-\

I saw some bits of the first series but missed a lot of it; the shows I've seen this time made me laugh and want to get out there and do something to rectify my own very overgrown garden !

Reg is brilliant ! I want to see more of him, I'm sure he knows what he's doing !

I loved the pictures of the steam train, it'll be great to see what she does there, although I think I'm going to miss the next episode :(

She may be a bit excentric - and loud ! - but she's a lot more fun than the other gardening programs on tv, even if she can be a bit bossy at times !

Better a bossy Christine than Monty 'public schoolboy' Don I say ! Thank goodness tv doesn't always follow the 'accepted' gardeing structure !

Woooo woooooo.......

I wasnt sure about Christine when i saw her in the first series - found her accent a bit impenetrable, but now i have got used to that, I really like her and the programme. Knowledge able and entertaining - a great combination.

I think Reg is great too. Kind of chap i wouldn't mind having as a neighbour (dont talk to me about neighbours - argh!) . Could help him out in his garden just like christine does.

:)

loved this last night, she has a job she really enjoys and is soooo happy,

she has all the ups and downs with plants/ gardens we all have, not like 'staged' programme thats on after it.

moving plants around on the ' long boarder' for the whole programme was a complete waste of time, grow something Monty!! /shades x

I really like her programme - it's a change from Gardeners world as it's not organised and they show a bit of everything. I also like the way she is using her own garden - unlike monty, carol etc. who film in berryfields. I agree with angle shades about last nights GW - I got very bored watching Monty move plants around...I think GW is starting to slip a little

Yep, Gw is very staged these days. All set piece gardening projects and little real gardening. Still watchable though, but there are only so many times I want to be shown how to plant things!

I do miss the days of Alan, where, OK he had his set piece projects, but most of the time you felt you were following someone spending the day doing jobs in their garden - just like you'd do yourself. I liked that. You dont get that feel these days

i think it,s because it comes across as being real! i really enjoyed last nights and it left me feeling happy :) a bit later on i found myself thinking we could do with that thunderstorm and then remembered it was in CG so it was that real to me  ;D
one thing ? are we to believe those children planted on unprepared ground or did
i miss something?  havn,t seen GW yet so can,t comment

Oh Lish!  :P  Trust you to lower the tone!  ;)

Gardeners World is dull dull dull.  She is mind numbingly entertaining.  Easy to watch whilst I am eating my tea in front of the box and chatting to the old man.  Doesn't need your undivided attention.  ;D

Gardeners World is dull dull dull.

I've lost all interest in GW these days - its just far too remote. Who has long borders? who has a whopping great pond/lake? Can you buy Berryfields no. 2 @ B&Q ? Who builds a show garden?

CG is about everyday garderners doing everyday jobs.

I don't know how you can call her an everyday gardener doing everyday jobs, how many of us could, or could afford to cover our gardens with 50 bags of compost delivered, and no doubt purchased from one of the most expensive garden centres in the country.

I too thought it was a bit extravagant, using brand new potting compost to mulch with. I tend to use spent potting compost as a mulch!

That said it it probably cheaper to buy in bulk and it probably came from a wholesaler rather than a garden centre.

certainly a novel way of using a household removal company......not for Ower Christine, then, an arm and a leg from the local garden centre for a local delivery - kerbside only :-\

Mind you, with her arms and legs, that'd be no probs...(and yep! still envious :-[)

You know I consider myself quite fit and strong (wirth arms a bit like Popeye from all the stuff i have to lug around the garden - Lol), but i couldnt throw a great big (80 litre?) bag of compost of me shoulder like christine did in the programme (knowing my luck if i tried it i'd do my shoulder in!). She must be a pretty strong lass!

Anyway, lucky old Christine to have a job that she absolutely loves - how many of us can really say that?
