Title: Start of in pots or direct?
Post by: OliveOil on March 15, 2007, 21:35:50
I have loads of sunflower seeds this year and plan on creating a lovely fencing of them along one side of my plot.

Should i start them off inside in pots or direct?? and when!

We sow in April in pots and plant out much later... the risk with direct is the slugs will have them as tinies, the problem with pots is you can check the roots so not get as big.... we manage 6-9' on a normal year with pots sown but have had a 15' once!
 ;D

I've got 24 sunflowers in rootrainers at the moment, seeds from netto, haven't planted my giant ones yet, will wait 'til end of march, grow on and plant out as last year, we lost more than half to slugs  :-\ :)
