At my local Tesco yesterday
Weed Prevention Sheet 1.5 x 10 m £2
Garden Fleece 2.4 x 8 m £3
The weed sheet proves to be thickish black plastic with small holes punched in it - not nearly as good as the proper woven stuff but i think it should do the job, the fleece looks fine...
-
I used the black plastic sheets last year - hopeless for perennial weed suppression - they grew thro the holes >:(
But excellent for warming the soil and growing melons etc.
-
Lidl have the black porous material for £2.99 just now. 1 metre by 10 metres,
ideal for under woodchips as a path.
-
I`v just bought the black plastic from Lydl for my strawberry plants.. Thanks for the info on tesco, i need to get some fleece for my carrots
-
yes,thanks..we'll go have a look tomorrow, the last one we got was only 1 metre wide, not big enough to go over the hoops :)
-
Our Lidl have no fleece or black out material !!! :(
-
Thanks for Lidl tip - will have a look at w/e

Poundland had some weed suppressant fabric too but VERY thin. I have used it under bark chips for paths but don't know how long it will last.
-
I bought some of the Tesco black plastic, but it wasn't any thicker than bin liners.
I expect it's not UV resistant either.

If its not wide enough then stick it together with gaffer tape also available cheap in lidl.
Isbister you must have Orcadian roots with that name?
