Title: Have I made a Big Mistake!!!
Post by: chuff on February 11, 2007, 18:30:02
Hi everybody, I have put my potatoes to chit in my shed window, which is made of plastic frosted stuff, unfortunately they have been receiving full sunshine on the days that we have had no clouds, they have turned green are they still ok to plant or should I buy new ones ???

They should be placed to chit in light! You want short sturdy shoots, not leggy white ones.  Green potatoes are poisonous but you're not going to eat these, you will plant them! So all is fine ;D!

Honestly, direct sunlight is no problem! Keeps them stubby rather than weedy and searching for light.

don't worry, my chitted potatoes look awful before they go in the ground!
Green, wrinkly......they crop fine.
